I love it when know-it-alls use that "but I didn't see any signs" crap at my place. It's even funnier when the OPP tells them that doesn't matter, and ticket them anyway.
Every year it's the same thing - on the Friday afternoon before trout season opens, idiots rip down the signs and throw them in the woods because they think that will keep them from getting charged. And they're always amazed when it doesn't. Some people have no brains at all.

I got asked to get off private property on opener. I was at a conservation area but started to follow the creek downstream. I ended up at a lot that had a no entry beyond this point, no trespassing. I didn't go any further but when I started to back track, a car pulled up at the property and was asked to leave. I told the land owner where I came from and asked him where does the conservation area end. He told me and now I know. His property actually started 100 yards before I saw the sign.

Was yelled at by a farmer for going on what seemed like public land @ bronte creek north of the bridge on 4, apparently they own the land under the water.
I should have read up on the regulations and the farmer was nice enough, so whatever, you live and you learn.

Do you get ticketed on first offence? By my understanding if I don't see the signs, technically you didn't post it well enough so I should just get a warning?? According to your comment,;whether there are signs or not you can get ticketed which would make my first comments about making sure you aren't on private property correct?.
We bought the property so that we could have a place to fish without being shoulder to shoulder with other people. There are steelhead in spring and fall, and resi browns in summer. We own both banks, as well as the stream bed in between.
People don't respect the fence or the signs, they pull the signs down and climb right over the fence. So too bad for them, I call the OPP and they charge them with trespass every time.
I once even had three idiots from a certain "fishing team" try to crowd me out of my own pool. On my own property. So I told them they were trespassing and the head loudmouth starts yapping about how they have the right to fish up to the high water mark and if I don't like it I can go scr*w myself. Called the OPP (they know me by now) and all three were charged.
So many fishermen are complete idiots. Even with a fence and no trespassing signs and calling the OPP you would not believe how many Tim Horton cups and styrofoam worm containers and wads of line and other garbage I cleaned up this week. All on MY property. This is why guys like me who own property have zero patience with fishermen. Not all are idiots, I know that. But too many of them are.

I get what symmetre is saying, people just don't respect the properties, i know several properties on the ganny that are on the fence about posting private property and joining with one of the fishing club coalitions there
its everyones problem, its just plain ignorant of people to leave garbage around every season for the owners to clean up and deal with, that costs farmers time and money to stop their day to day stuff to pick up someone elses trash

I have encountered an area which is bordering a river/creek, there is a fence surrounding "the property" however there is an area between 2 feet and 10 feet from the river that is not marked off.
Is it fair to assume this is still private property, or is this "fair game"?
As I was fishing the area with my buddy, the property owners made an appearance - they were a very nice family (I guess they were walking the property), and when I asked if we are trespassing (out of curiosity and to avoid any issues) they said "kind of".
Not sure what that entails but I always take out more than I bring in so if I do come back, there wont be any issues if ever I try to come back!

We small chatted a bit, told them what we are fishing for and showed them how (they had kids with them). They were very nice and polite!
The fence being away from the river seemed strange, almost as if they didnt own that part of the land?

probably to keep wandering kids or pets away from the waters edge
