Frenchman's is loaded with carp. If you bring the right gear and have time to sit all day and know the spots. You can easily pull 20 carp in one outing.

Got out with some friends who are new to carping so snapped a few pics. !3 fish biggest about 23lb 6pm to 1am

You mean it's fun just dicking around watching your line go stiff....we go 4am for bass and as soon as it hits 7am...we open up our lawn chairs and just chill.

bluffer's park. lot's of carp...you just have to time where they are feeding. Colonel Sam Smith park...smaller marina but lot's of snag - and parking is terrible.

This was the ugliest carp I've ever caught. I think he has a disease or is beat up from spawning. Either way it didn't stop him from eating my fly.

Can anyone explain to me what is needed for carp fishing? I have a friend who lives on the hamilton harbour, and we see the carp swim by all the time. It would be fun to try to catch one. I have a shimano cardiff reel on a sojourn rod. it is spooled with 40lb braid i believe.
1) Would i need a leader so the green braid line doesn't spook the fish?
2) What size hook?
3) Do i just bait with some maize or boilies (i see for sale at the Sail store) on the hook?
4) How do i rig the line? ie placement of weight in relation to hook and bait?
any advice is appreciated!

Bill, I will try to answer your question in order.
1.you don't need a leader. i fish with 15lb mono main line all the way to the feeder/sinker. then my leader is 15lb green braid.
2.size 4 - size 8 is what I use.
3.hair rigging corn or boiler also helps a much more secure hook set. I used to just put corn on the hook but learning the hair rig has improved my catching rate.
4.you just need a sinker at least 1 foot from your hook. having a feeder/sinker helps for early hook up.
5. this is important...you need lots of time...

Dilligaf gave good advice. I like using a 3 way swivel rig with a snap attached to my weight, and a 12" leader to a #6 hook. For bait canned corn works well, you can hair rig or put it on the hook. Find an opening in the weeds and throw a couple handfuls of canned corn as chum. Put your rig in the middle and wait.
