Yes sadly.
But even if I can change one persons outlook , it's one more hen dropping.
It's an entitled world mentality out there.
Just hoping not a permanent view.
Lots of ethical guys out there also.

Sorry for the double post but yeah... seeing hens kept hurts lol. I was on an east trib a few weeks back and netted this huge hen for a guy, easily 14lbs, and he kept her :((((

I have kept a few fish throughout the years I've been fishing. That's part of the fishing game. I like using roe and bead. Roe isn't cheap. Our licenses allows us to keep fish with limitations. What's wrong is keeping every hen you catch...because you know you have more than enough to use roe for the entire season.1 hen can last me 3 seasons. I don't really like gutting fish...I look for loose eggs and ready to blow. Anything else goes back to the water.

It hurts to see people take hens or any steelhead on tribs that don't get stocked with rainbows. It happens on my local trib which has low natural reproduction

I know most of you guys think I'm a dick.
Believe me ,I'm no overboard tree hugger.
Just love my fishing escape and don't want to lose it.
Very rare anywhere in this world to have great fishing in your own backyard.
Let's try to keep it.

As I said. If you can't stand seeing people take out a hen for roe. Avoid the salmon runs and Trout openers. If you can look past that. You will enjoy the crowd. Overall..Trout openers and Salmon runs are fun. And it dies down fast anyways. Kids get excited because where else can they fight bigger fish other than salmon run and trout opener? Some don't even go after roe. they just want to take home the prize of catching a big fish. Just have fun. Most of the guys who have been fishing since Feb are tired of steels anyways.

I never get tired of Steel, river fishing that is. I’m one of the lucky ones that lives on the river sort of speak. It’s the outdoors that most guys my age like and never get tired of, the fish are just a bonus .

Love opener, great time to get out possibly meet some new people and establish some new found fishing friend ships. Just remember take it easy, enjoy the day. Hey you never know you might even catch a few.

I hope that some of you remember that there are usually a lot of new guys out that day. So try to be kind and if possible offer some help or just a good word of encouragement. I remember my first time out many moons ago and the one thing that sticks out was a couple of gents that spent some time talking to me and giving me a few very valuable pointers.

tightlines and have a great opener.

Young guy about 17 fishing beside me yesterday.
Got his first steel on his new rod.
Panicking and worried he's holding me up from drifting run.
Horsing the steel in.
Told him , relax and enyoy.
I can use the rest. LOL
He replied, you don't know how much better I feel hearing that sir.
I laughed and told him again enjoy the moment , take your time.
Gloved the trout for him in a matter of 5 min.
I LOVE opener.

Fantastic day for you guys Dill.
The g was high but just dirty enough the fish weren't getting harassed.
14 on the day.
Only 8 landed.
Always amazed how they can spit such a sharp hook lol
