I had the same problem last week fishing for pike and placed small weights above the wire leader, the spoon action remained constant and we caught several using this method.
The tackle is gone but still have the 3 spinning rods. They are all in great condition. 3 different action rods, great for a starter kit or to round out your existing equipment. I'd like to see these go to good use as I already have too many rods. Make me a reasonable offer.

Not sure if any of you have an extra $5000 handy but I just saw this ad on Kijiji for a fishing store liquidating it's inventory. Might be worth a look.
I head up to North Bay a few times a year for Pike and I've always had good luck on the North Shore around the Beaucage Park area. We generally troll through the weed beds about 50 - 100 yards off shore.
