G. Ross Lord Park

02 April 2011 - 02:23 PM

So yesterday I went to the reservoir at G. Ross Lord Park, let me tell you how it went. Firstly, the park was an absolute mess, this includes the water. I followed the shore along, fishing at various spots starting at the point of the reservoir which is closest to Dufferin and Finch (East of Dufferin). The bait I used included nightcrawlers, some of those "Emerald Minnows" (the dead prepackaged minnows, dont ask my why i have them), and a couple jigs (at this point i was quite bored so I just started casting).
I went here in hopes of catching some suckers, because I don't really know a good place to catch them (for catfish bait). I found out about this area from the posting that the MNR posted about the GTA fishing spots (don't have link but google it and I'm sure it'll pop up). Anyhow, my friend and I caught absolutely nothing, besides pulling up bits of plastic with every cast. This aggrevation was compounded due to, not only were we fishing and pulling up garbage, we were standing in it too. So my final verdict would be 0/5 stars, and no, I will not be returning. The sucker hunt continues...

How do you prepare your roe?

31 March 2011 - 01:00 AM

Hey guys, just wanted to ask the comunity how they like to prepare their roe? I usually seperate out each individual egg, throw some borax, brown sugar, and salt into the mix and I'm good to go. Recently I've done some research, while trying out different measurements and various concoctions, I came across the commercial borax mixes. So i said "what the heck, might as well give it a try aswell". I went and picked myself up some "Atlas-Mike'sĀ® Shake 'N' Cure for Salmon Eggs" from the Bass Pro Shop. I tried the stuff out, and it produced some good quality roe. apparently it can be frozen up to 1 year. That may be debatable, but the finished product got the job done. Anyway what is everyone's take of commercial brands of roe cure, and how do you personally prepare it in general?
