euro carping is a lot different to what you lads in canada do, i should know as ive fished in canada and europe.. over here the bigger fish are a bit more clever, and taking into account how pressured/busy our lakes are, its inevitable i guess? your rivers are full of carp, whereas ours (uk) were but our polish immigrants have more or less taken them all for eating!! plus we now have the signal crayfish which has eaten the eggs/spawn, and the dreaded cormarants,.have eaten the fry! plus the pollution..this is why our lakes are now busy, and the sucsessfull carper has had to adapt to catch these wily ol monsters.. i was lucky enough to fish the river trent at ontonabee i think it was called back in 1999, we had loads of carp! biggest was 29.14lbs i still have the fotos, i loved the place, i imagine its a busy area now as the carp were plentifull here and quite easy to catch back then.ive not been back but my friends did but they went on the st lawrence, anyways would like to chat again soon.

have you not tried fishing for the carp on the surface? its a killer method!

So I took the venture to Milne at the actual dam from Princess Street. No luck there but the carp were just moving on top of the water here and there. I stopped by Toogood pond to take a look at the mouth of the river and saw about 4 people fishing there. One gentleman was using the whole British Styled setup for the carp tournaments they have. Needless to say I stood there and watched for 10 minutes before I did anything and decided to just call it for the day and grab a beer on main street aha. I plan on going back to toogood pond tonight as I work as a bouncer at jakes on main street so after work I will test my luck again. Also, I took a short trip to a secret spot near my house for some crappie/pike and here was the outcome.

to fish in light weed, you have several choices of how to present your baited hook, chod rig is the best here in the uk,but as mentioned its difficult to tie up,but believe me it works a treat, but you have to fish it on a slack line, or you can use a pop up rig,or you can put everything including your sinker/baited hook/and some extra baits, in a pva bag and cast it out, just google what ive mentioned and you will see what i mean.

when i was in canada i noticed that the tackle shops sold minnows, never seen that before! but i am in the uk.as a matter of fact a minnow will catch you a lot of different fish over here, eels, chub,perch,pike,carp,bream,zander..so imo its a very good natural bait, but i think live bait is now banned here?
