Both these shows are coming up ... Toronto Sportsman Show is next week and the Toronto fishing/boat show is the week after...
TSS early bird tickets online are 16 dollars each. vs. Toronto Fishing Boat show which is 15 w/ additional 2 dollars off.
I have never been to either... i will mainly be going for fishing and boating. however, i don't want to go to both.
To those that have went before.. which one would you recommend and why?

Round Goby Galore
17 September 2012 - 02:16 AM
I mentioned this on another thread....
Was going to do some fishing yesterday at Tommy Thompson Park... but realized there is no shuttle service this year. The week before i already walked to the bridge and i was not ready for that crazy journey again... especially with all my gear.
So i headed to Ashbridges bay looking to catch some panfish for fun....
I saw a family casting their spinners and spoons.. im guessing for pike or what not .. they told me no bites.
I threw in a basic hook and worm and started catching these round goby's ... NON STOP GOBY action!.. every single drop or cast... its the same thing.. i fished the whole boardwalk and the even decided to fish where the rocks are which opens into lake ontario... same thing.. goby galore...im talking every single cast i would feel the nibble and pull one of these fishes back.
I understand they are a invasive species of fish.... but what do we do with it when we catch it.. i threw all mine back.
should i have done otherwise? and if so.. how?

Lake Chemung/Chemong
05 September 2012 - 07:01 PM
I'm going for a weekend cottage trip this weekend a lake chemung or now known as chemong.
I haven't fished here since I was a child so its a good 20 something years or so.
Has anyone fished chemung recently? Or have had any experiences they like to share there.
Some hints of where to fish would be nice

what hook is best for different fishes?

Obviously there are tons of different hooks and styles out there as well as different sizes and brands.
Im wondering if anyone can share tips of which hook to use for what kind of fish... or if they have a preference for a type of hook or brand and why.
like most.. i love fishing for bass... i just picked up some red offset wide gamakatsu hooks... size 2.. i dont know if this is too big? i plan to texas rig them to make them weedless.
I have never used offset hooks.. i have always been using the basic baitholder dollarama style hooks.. so this will be new for me.
I also do fish a lot in the weeds... can anyone tell me how those weedless hooks are with the guard. what size should i be looking at with bass fishing? also.. theres this new style "sickle hook" i saw.. what is difference from this and a normal hook?

Boat Rental Thread
28 August 2012 - 07:03 PM
I dont think this has been done yet...
I think it would be beneficial...(for me at least) if we can report on different marinas that offer boat rentals ... the lakes that they are on.. and the prices they charge.
I will start....
Few weeks back i went to lake simcoe and rented a pontoon from Lake Simcoe Marine Ltd. www.lakesimcoemarine.com i found it to be quite pricey there.. however, the pontoon was not bad... nice friendly owners the pontoon had a live well and rod holders ... 200 dollars for full day .. NOT including gas and taxes.
15ft. aluminum boat is $125 for the day.. NOT including gas and taxes.
PS. Boating License required for this location... some places are not strict on this policy..
I also tried little lake the day before that...
small marina that was fair in price.. if i remember it was around 110 bucks for a pontoon for the whole day ... it covered gas... however Little Lake was not that great at all this year... there are sooo many weeds. Never seen a lake with so many weeds. 20hp motor on a 6 person pontoon.. needless to say we were getting stuck in weeds and going at a wheelchair pace.
Im looking to go out in the lake for some good fishing but hopefully you guys can help and find me cheaper rentals that are reputable. Cant afford to pay this much every time.
