I would encourage people to get OFF the beaten path for opener. I have fished with the crowds, and it isn't pleasant... I personally don't find snagged lines and yelling matches fun at all. I opt for peace and solitude, and that's what I encourage.

So true, hoping to do that again this year. It doesn't always pan out but its worth it....in the old days it was much easier and I am only in my 30's what a difference 10-15 years makes in southern ontario,

Thats a lot of water for fishing even in a day....I would cut it in half at least, never floated it but am familiar with area and have done a few trips on the saugeen and basically if the paddle/float distance is say normally 2-3hrs I basically double it for fishing.

Caught lots of bass a couple weeks back when it was really hot...didn't concern myself with migratory fish on that trip.

Heading to huron this weekend for some fishing...might try for salmon/steel on the saturday night but with the hot weather its going to be a bass trip I think. Haven't fished all summer really.
