Anybody want to show me how its done?

01 May 2014 - 08:00 AM

I am leaving friday the 2nd of may headed for the Hilton Niagra . I have all saturday to fish and plan on putting some time in the area . I should not say I am totally new because i have been steelheading 4 times with 0 success . Anybody want to meet up and fish? I am not looking to steel your spot but more looking for guidance to ensure I am doing stuff right . All the sttelhead fishing i have done has been rather shallow runs . This river below my hotel seems alot faster and deeper so I am slightly intimidated but know there is good fishing .

If you want to meet up saturday morning shoot me a email at [email protected]   . I am not willing to pay to be guided but if ever you are in Ottawa I would be willing to return the favor by going fishing for some bass in my stratos .

Cheers !

May 3rd steelhead help

15 March 2014 - 03:06 PM

The weekend  of may 3rd I will be leaving Ottawa and heading out and trying my luck again at some chrome. Forum rules say no naming bodies of water, I am not sure if it applies when asking a question but all I will say is my hotel over looks a wicked looking waterfall. :) My main question is regarding time of year. I have yet to nail a steelhead and am really hoping to hook one. How is it fishing this time of year?  I hear a lot of talk bout using a 3way swivel to get the weight and bait down to the bottom. Can a standard float rig with a roe bag be used? This is the only method I know. What other species woud be in this river at this time of year?

Roe do's and dont's

So I just ordered some Roe from C.A.C website. When I get it the suggest putting it in a air tight container. Is it better to tie the bags right away then freeze them or freeze the loose roe then tie when unthawed?

Any tricks on getting the air out of containers or zip-locks ? If I freeze the roe bags what the best way to unthaw?

Sorry for the questions but I am heading to Mississauga for a fishing conference and plan on fishing some tribs on the way back. Just dropped a ton of money on stuff and would hate to ruin the roe before actualy fishing.!

Lake Ontario Ice Fishing?

08 November 2013 - 01:02 PM

With the ice fast approaching I have only 1 goal that I want to complete this season and thats to catch some trout throught the ice of Lake O . Living in Ottawa I dont get the chance to venture to far along the 401 in search of these awesome fish . I have done some research on where I would be able to ice fish and possibly catch a laker, brown or bow . The majority of locations where around hamilton....50 point...the furthest possible end of the lake from me . Anybody know of any area'sbetween Toronto and kingston that might be safe ? I am not looking for secret locations just a general area to look .  Thanks for your help in advance !

Keeping your fingers warm?

08 November 2013 - 12:53 PM

I am rather new to steelhead fishing. ive been a couple times and love it ! One thing that bothers me is that when I go in late november my hands get so cold I can hardly rety a knot . Is there a glove that you guys use / recomend ? Its hard to find a pair of gloves that are warm yet waterproof and are rather thin.

Would appreciate your $0.02
