There are some mooneye through the lower middle sector but the majority are found from Caledonia down through York and below. During just about any mid season hatch they will be up eating heavily on the surface and they are dumber than cutthroats when it come to taking dries. You will also find a mixture of very 'trouty' smallmouth through that sector and they are the real treasures down there.

Depends when you are fishing for them bud... you're talking about the area I told you about?
Absolutely correct.... and when you are fishing them and what the water temperature is and a myriad of other factors just like any fishing we do. Pike patterns will change considerably from spring to fall and the body of water will great influence that.

Take a look at these, they may help. 4x is too light for your 9wt. If you are high sticking, look at the part 2 diagram (Great Lakes Steelhead leader) It's simple and works.

The Orvis glass rods are very nice. Cast beautifully, look great and are worth every penny. I've ordered the 8' 5wt and if you are thinking of one, think a line or two lighter than graphite. What I mean by that is the 8' 5 will fish more like a heavy 3 or a 4 wt.
