Fishing on a hot day

08 September 2013 - 10:49 PM

I'm going fishing with a buddy on Tuesday and the forecast is calling for some pretty high temperatures. I usually avoid fishing in that sort of heat; but sometimes you gotta fish whenever you get a chance.
I was just wondering what works for you guys once the temperatures start to get high like that? Typically I'll just switch to a stick bait and let er sink to the bottom and usually get some hits.
I'll be starting off early morning maybe with some top waters and crank baits.
By the way, off shore fishing.

Thanks.

Should I be worried?

Hey guys, just bought a new reel!
Got the shimano Sedona. Can't wait to try it out.
And also for the first time I got it spooled with braided line. Have been using mono my whole life. But after reading around here all summer, I'm taking the recommendation of many of you to fish with braid.

Now, my concern is that I got 20lb test line. My pole is rated 6-14lb I believe. Could be off by a couple lbs. a friend of mine told me that I will snap my pole if I pull too hard. Makes sense...
Do I just need to take it easy if I get a snag and cut my line rather than pulling hoping for a release on the snag?

Any advice would be great :)

Ps. My pole is Abu Garcia vendetta 7'

Lake Nosbonsing

Anybody ever been?

I am heading up there next week for about 4 days. Super excited for some good fishing. As a kid I would go up there and have many memories of catching multiple pike and walleye.

I haven't been up for about 7 or 8 years now and was wondering if anyone knows how the fishing is there lately.

I think the lake is mainly known for its walleye Muskie and pike. But I'm hoping to target bass as well.

Will have access to a small aluminum boat with electric trolling motor, a canoe, and a paddle boat. And also a dock to fish from. No fish finder.

I recall the lake being very very weedy.

Can not wait!

Rockwood

Have been thinking of going out to Rockwood Conservation or in the general area to try some fishing. Have heard that there is some good fishing to be done there. Anyone have any success stories or non success stories?
Or any general advice? Would like to hear them all before I head over.

Thanks

New here

Hi all. After browsing some fishing discussions on this forum from my cell phone on breaks at work; I finally decided to make an account. There were just too many times when I wanted to contribute to a discussion!

It seems like there is a really nice and knowledgeable group of people here. I'm looking forward to talking about fishing with you all.

I currently reside in the small town of Plattsville (just outside of Kitchener and New Hamburg). I have only been here since May, but it's nice that the Nith River is a short walk away from me. This is the first time I have ever tried river fishing, and it is quite different than fishing from a boat in a small lake, or off a shoreline of a pond or lake. I am hoping to get the hang of river angling so I may enter the Grand River Bass Derby next year.

Fish on.
