Looking at getting into some fly fishing this year.
Any recommendations on a "starter" combo? Specific lengths, models I should be looking at?
Thanks!

Since xmas is around the corner, I'm in the market for a baitcast rod. I've never used one before, so I'm really sure what to be looking for (or how to use!) Mostly I hit rivers, and use a combo of tubes and cranks.
I do want something that will last me sometime, and in the mid range section. I don't mind paying for quality.
Was looking at the BPS combos and came across this one.

Is this worth the price? Are there better quality setups that I should be looking at?
I did notice the HMG was highly recommended, not sure about a good reel for it.
Thanks!

I was looking on the rapala site and came across this for $379 ... it's as tall as me? Is this a misprint? What are you catching with this Blue Whales!!

Was out on the Grand this weekend, and pulled in a good size bass with a spoon. Usually use tube jigs it has been ineffective the last couple weeks.
Interested in some tips on fall fishing.
1) Where do fish retreat to in the fall?
2) Preferred lures when fall fishing?
3) Does the retrieval speed change as the water gets colder?

I've been advised that using a 'scale' is no longer the way to determine the weight of a fish, as it causes harm to the gills. Curious as to how many of you have used these formulas? Are the accurate?

Manual Equation
Walleye: Length x Length x Length divided by 2,700 For example: An 18-inch walleye weighs approximately 2.16 pounds [5,832 (18 x 18 x 18) divided by 2,700=2.16].
Pike: Length x Length x Length divided by 3,500
Sunfish: Length x Length x Length divided by 1,200
Bass: Length x Length x Girth (girth is the distance around the body) divided by 1,200
Trout: Length x Girth x Girth divided by 800
