swap my Wapsi Streamer Rooster Neck #1 Black feathers for some marabou

30 October 2016 - 04:55 PM

Would like to swap a package of Wapsi brand, #1 Black, Streamer Rooster Neck feathers used for fly tying hackles, etc.

Purchased at Drift Outfitters last month and only used 3-4 feathers before subsequently finding a package I thought I'd used up. Cost me $22.50 plus tax.

Looking to trade it for about 1/4 oz of quality brand strung marabou in each of black & white AND about 1/8 oz of marabou in each of brown and moss green (a 1/4 oz package of Wapsi brand marabou only costs $4.50 plus tax new, so I'll be taking a loss here).

Willing to meet halfway to swap at a Tim's in Toronto (I live close to where the 401 & 400 intersect).

Thanks for looking.

best rod/line setup for rollcasting size 12 & 14 beadhead streamer furthest?

30 October 2016 - 12:54 PM

Hi, everyone.

Would appreciate opinions as to the following query:

which rod & line setup will rollcast a size 14 or 12 beadhead streamer the furthest, a 9', 4 wt medium action rod with 4 wt DT line or a 5 with 5 wt line or a 6 with 6 wt line or a 7 with 7 wt line?

Can get those size wooly buggers and fishfinder flies out 45-50' (not incl leader & tippet) with mediocre 5 and 6 wt 9', med action rods lined with Cortland 444 DT 5 and 6 wt line, respectively and am looking to upgrade to either Rio Trout LT DT line or Airflo Super Dri Elite Trout DT line, both of which very likely sit higher in the water and are much more supple than the Cortland line (so will hopefully allow me to cast 15' or so further), but am on a limited budget, so can only afford one setup for this one particular spot I fish where there is little backcasting space and getting the fly out as far as possible is helpful.

Thanks in advance. Cheers

swap my 8', 6 wt, med action Fenwick Black Hawk fly rod

30 October 2016 - 12:27 PM

Looking to swap a pristine, practically new condition (note lack of wear on reel seat and ferrules), made in Canada, 8', 2 piece, 3 & 1/8 oz, medium action Fenwick 6 wt Black Hawk fly rod.

Received it recently from a friend who purchased it years back intending to start fly fishing, but decided it wasn't for him. Comes with a nylon "sock" and a proper sized aluminum rod tube, though the latter was originally paired with a Fenwick Woodstream.

Already have a 9', 6 wt medium-fast action fly rod, as well as a 8', 5 wt med action, so would like to trade the Fenwick for:

a) a 9', 5 or 4/5 wt, two or four piece, medium action fly rod - if you don't have a tube or case for your rod, will only trade for a 4 pc;

or

B) a 9' or 9' 6", 8 or 7/8 wt, med action fly rod - don't care if 2 or 4 pc, but rod must have a good "fighting butt".

Okay if rod is a bit scuffed, so long as blank, guides, ferrules, handle, reel seat, etc in good shape. Please, no rods with repaired blanks, guides, handle, etc.

Not expecting anything super high quality cuz I know the Black Hawk is an older model (but some may be interested just cuz it was made in Canada and is in great shape) - just a rod of better quality than the kind found in starter sets.

Will, of course, require photos, brand, & model # before setting up a meeting.

Willing to meet halfway in the GTA at a Tim's to make the trade (I live close to where the 401 & 400 intersect in Toronto).

Btw, please excuse me if I don't get back to you promptly, but my phone sometimes doesn't "ping" to inform me of new email.

If you see ad, it's available. Thanks for looking.

swap my tuned small engine for a 8-9 wt fly fishing rod-reel combo

04 August 2016 - 01:42 PM

Hi. Looking to acquire a backup 8-9 wt fly fishing combo. Would like an 8-9 wt, large arbor, disc drag fly reel capable of left hand retrieve paired with a medium or med-fast action 10' 7 wt rod or a 9' 6" to 10', 8 wt or 9', 9wt - okay if either scuffed so long as in otherwise good condition and the combo needn't be super high quality so long as better than cheapo starter sets. Rod must have a "fighting butt". Please, no repaired rods.

In trade, offering up one of three recently tuned small engines:

1) a (white) 2x horizontal shaft 5hp Tecumseh that came off an Ariens dual stage snowblower with a damaged auger gearcase - points done, carb cleaned & rebuilt, valve clearances checked, oil changed, new gas line & fuel shut off valve, etc - has a geared flywheel & other provisions for an electric starter (not included)

or

2) a (red) 5hp Briggs & Stratton with a covered & enclosed carb inlet, so engine can be used for winter to fall applications (so long as it's not used in very dusty conditions) - came off a tiller in a deal I brokered betw acqs (buyer didnt like a red engine on a green tiller, so I removed this one & got Mr. Cheap & Fastidious a black one for an extra case of beer ;) ) - cleaned it up and changed oil, cleaned carb, lapped valves, checked valve and points clearances, new crankcase gasket, etc - has a 3/4" diameter, 2.25" long horizontal shaft (if u require the shaft to be longer, u can effectively lengthen it by using a double pulley) and provisions for an elec starter (not incl)

or

3) a (black) 3.5hp Briggs and Stratton with a 6:1 reduction gear/gearcase - can be used to power anything from a roofer's ladder hoist to a cement mixer, an aerator, dethatcher, etc - got the reduction gearcase on a 3hp engine with a cracked block in a multi swap for my saltwater safe spinning reel and tranferred the case, carb, tank, air cleaner, starter shroud, cam and crankshaft onto a 3.5hp engine that was used in a high school small engine repair class and had no run time on it - cleaned carb & tank & air cleaner, new crankcase gasket, etc

If swapping for the reduction gear engine will also require a $50 top up as they are hard to come by and this one has a practically new block and like new compression and spark.

Installation not included. Throttle cable on the 5hp engines not included.

Can provide (more) photos of work done upon request. Will, of course, require pics of your combo.

Pick up only close to both 401 and 400/Black Creek Drive in Toronto. Thanks for looking.

r chest waders absolutely required in Forks of the Credit Prov Park?

02 August 2016 - 11:53 AM

Hi, everyone.

Hope I am not violating the rule as to naming a river, but am not asking for "hot spots"; my query is more of a "safety" issue ... would just like to know if most or just some of the river that runs thru the aforementioned park is so deep that chest waders are required?

Only have have hip waders (furthermore, am only 5' 6-7", so my legs aren't very long either lol) and with all my responsibilities and expenses, don't want to shell out for chest waders and boots if not absolutely necessary, esp since I don't get the chance to fly fish often.

Also, have heard there are quite a few sinkholes in the upper Humber ... is this also the case as to the section of the Credit that runs thru the park?

Thank you.
