Abu Garcia black max3 combo baitcaster

14 August 2016 - 03:54 PM

It's like $100... Reviews are decent and it would be my first Baitcast setup. Any alternatives in this range? I've found crank bait/ spinner bait lures lucrative this summer and my little ugly stick spinner is giving me tennis elbow.

Recommendation pls!

Thanks a ton

Smiths Mill Pond, ON

14 August 2016 - 03:37 PM

Hi All,

I have a little inflatable and trolling motor so ponds, small lakes seem to suit me well in that rig.

I have a great time in Waterford ponds, but gotta watch the stumps. Anyone ever fished smiths mill pond (south of Brantford)? I see a small access point on the north side of the lake that would be perfect for my Sevylor. Wondering if anyone has fished here and what to expect... Google searches are pretty thin on info. Thanks!

Anyone fished here recently?  Any advice bait/ lure advice?  The website lists smallies and I'm camping here for 4 days... hoping someone has been recently!

Cheers

Lackluster Lure Luck

17 July 2016 - 06:26 PM

Hi All,

Fishing heavily this summer for SMB in the Grand river and conservation areas in and around Brant and Hamilton.  I've had a little luck with Dropshot and Jig but almost exclusively with live bait.

I'd really like to find some luck with crankbait lures but cant figure out what I'm doing wrong.  Ive tried divers, top waters (jitterbug), varied the colours, the speed of retrieval but cant seem to get a hit.  I've picked up some decent Rapalas with high bass ratings and today I even bought some at Dollarama that looked surprisingly good thinking why the hell not.

Am I just not patient enough?  Ill normally throw 20-30 casts before I mix the colour and depth and then just switch to dropshot with a jig/pig.  Soon as I switch I'm pulling in carp or a small bass (with the odd 3-4 pounder mixed in).

Any advice?  Stick with a lure for an hr or so?

Cheers.
