Nice morning at Lake Scugog

16 June 2017 - 06:50 PM

Drove up to Scugog early this morning and had a blast from 5:30 - 9:00a.m along the causeway catching and releasing a whole bunch of new to me species (rookie angler!). Yellow Perch, Rock Bass, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed and a few LM and SM Bass.

Left the causeway and meandered up Island Road to Goreski's Landing where I was told I cannot fish because it's "Private property". Continued all the way up to the end of Island Road along the dirt road but didn't catch anything more. Weeds are too thick and the fish didn't want to play

Fun and satisfying morning overall!

Here are some of the pics from today. I hope that I've ID'd the fish correctly..

Any Panfish in the Durham area?

07 June 2017 - 08:12 PM

Hey folks,

Just curious if there's any particular creeks/lakes/ponds etc in the Durham area that I need to be targeting for Panfish? I've tried Frenchman's bay and all I was able to pull out today were a couple of now dead Gobi's.

I'd like to find and try a few spots out so that I can take my daughter out to them and get her started with catching fish.

General area pointers would help. Specifics not required. I know that's frowned upon, but I wouldn't say no to a PM or two with specific info.

Cheers!

Durham region Newbie!

07 June 2017 - 07:49 PM

Hey folks, got bit hard by the fishing bug late in the season last year after catching a decent sized Bass, and a couple more smaller ones. I've spent the last few months of this year just gearing up and hitting a bunch of spots (ponds, tribs, lakes etc) using Google maps in the Durham region. Nothing landed so far this year (Gobies don't count!), but I'm optimistic with the season for Walleye, Bass etc opening up.. It's been tough for shore fishing with the water so high everywhere.

I'm currently using a 7' Quantum NX24 Medium action spinning rod with 10lb braid and a 5lb flourocarbon leader (as of last week!). I've attached my current "go with me" tackle box assortment as well as my lone big bass below as well.

Let me know if anyone in the Pickering area is looking to hook up and head out for a bit of shore fishing. I'm available most days after dropping my daughter to school, and in the evenings!

Tight lines folks!!
