Quite a few people, myself included, have chosen to ignore the signs and go out onto the peer to fish. Yesterday someone told me the police showed up and fined a bunch of people who were out there fishing. The had all summer to repair the ice damage to the catwalk, and Oakville can afford it, but now they're just being ridiculous.

Last time I was there I parked on the road near the pathway. I was on the west side. I'm not sure you can even fish on the east side, I saw signs saying no fishing along the east wall.

Good luck, there are lots of places you and your son could sit with a worm on the bottom and just chat. Lot's of smallies hanging around, and the odd sheepshead, too.
