My Fly Fishing Gear

25 September 2017 - 11:47 PM

Hi there,

My dad is a long time experienced fly fisherman. Since I have someone to teach me this nice sport, I bought a fly rod. Got it on sale just before old good Le Baron in Markham closed for good.......  I think this is a perfect fly rod for daily trips catching 2-4lbs. I mainly bought it as I don't want to learn on Hardy goodies  that my dad gave me. The rimfly reel is from the 70s. I like the set up. I find the rod forging when I make mistakes.

Fly Fishing at the West Duffins Creek for a trout

23 September 2017 - 12:26 AM

So I looked up a few spots and came to check it out. The bad news is that I did not bring a tripod on my first time when I was catching. Somehow I managed to fish with one hand and film with an other haha. The lesson learned. Hope you enjoy it and the hook came out super easy when I put him back in the river.

Trout Fishing at Rouge and Duffins (Catch/Release)

19 June 2017 - 12:11 AM

I ran into a local fisherman that suggested I switch from size 2 mepps to a size 1 and no fur. Sure and it did the trick. Love the Duffins, but I think I need proper gear/shirt to hide if I want to catch a bigger one. So I ordered one.

Another spot, just a few weeks back.

These are the sizes that you will mainly run into.

The local ponds and fishing

26 March 2017 - 12:56 PM

I drove after work to check out this pond in Markham. I was kind of surprised after I saw no fishing sign. I would imagine that it has something to do with zoning low? I know there is tons of decent bass in it. Have a look at the sign as I did a close up so you can get an idea. I am just trying to educated myself on the ponds. Would appreciate some input.

Someone tied up a crayfish with a line?

15 March 2017 - 08:00 PM

I wanted to check out this local river that is five minutes drive from my house. As I stepped on the rocks to see what's up, there was this line. Thinking I found someone's lure, I was wrong, but quickly saw this small guy tied up on it. As I always have a swiss knife on me, I cut the line and let him go back in the water. Someone wanted to save him for an other day to use it as a live bait? Not so nice.....

I messed around a bit, caught a few these small guys and put them back in. Not a bad day.
