Tenkara was used for commercial stream fishing in Japan long ago. They used bamboo poles and horsehair line. They knew it was the only way to produce fish in numbers in the rocky mountain streams they lived by. Also a form of tenkara was used in italy long ago.
keiryu fishing is more suited for live bait as well as nymphs(due to the weight used in such rigs), tenkara and seiryu is more meant for dry flies and unweighted flies. i have a few keiryu rods(daiwa kiyose)
that i can cast a dry fly with as well. basically the best rods come from daiwa or nissin(commercially)
