I use it for casting spoons and lures for salmon and trout and for jigging in the Niagara. It's very light and pretty sensitive. The only better rod for that application, in my opinion, is the legend elite 9' MH

I use a 9' MH St. Croix avid. Great rod for the money.

More companies should be making pier fishing and jigging rod for salmon and trout. Most of those 9'6" rods out there are too wimpy for this sort of stuff. The ideal rod is a 9' with a lure rating up to 1oz. St. Croix has these rods.

I just bought a T-4. Looks like a great reel for the money. I chose it over the Islander due to the slightly larger diameter. Otherwise, can't go wrong with either.
