    Salmonid insanity!

Yes this is a post about salmon! But not what you were expecting :P It has been a while since I've posted on OFF. Recently, I started species hunting: fishing for diversity rather than catching the same species over and over and over and over (ie bass) hahaha. I've taken a real liking to...

    What is this fish?

Bowfin or burbot? Bowfin: Burbot: I hope it helps... sounds like a bowfin to me!

    GTA Fishing... :/

This has happened to me as well! Mostly with carp though :(. Also, I can attest to the fact that the fish will move shallow in the morning and afternoon. At my friend's cottage, early in the morning and in the evening, there are cruising bass you can see from shore. You can't see any of...

    GTA Fishing... :/

For me at least, time of day makes a HUGE difference. There could be nothing from 5pm-8pm and then all of a sudden I'll start catching fish without changing a thing. Make sure you're fishing early mornings and cool evenings?

    Dollarama Gear

I've seen boxes like that one at Dollarama... and they smell... funky. I don't know about putting plastics in those, it might put off the fish ??? just my speculation

    California Trip suggestions!

well, I just had an interesting time at Home Depot and Rona... Apparently PVC pipe is very expensive. To build a 3.5' rod holder it would have cost $20... when a proper one only costs $32 from LeBaron and I could buy something THERE for just a little bit more.... So depressing, why would PVC...

    California Trip suggestions!

This is awesome I totally want to check this out. What a price! You weren't kidding :). For working the plug, is it just casting and retrieving? or vertical jigging? ... i'm sure they'll explain it to me there... but I'm just curious. What do you mean by "cheap squid in rainbow or...

Tangled Spool, big thanks my friend for that great advice! i still dont' get it.... are we casting wooden plugs from the party boat? :S. How deep are these tuna LOL... *confused* On anther topic..I just had a look at my suitcases... and my 2 piece 7 foot bass rod won't fit in any of...

    Weekend fishing up north

But don't hold pike by the lips LOL then you might need stiches :). Unless you have a lip grip, you can google how to properly hold pike.

Drag Lake Halliburton... I tried and tried for a Laker

Thanks Blair, you're right, it was a really awesome time. In the canoe, on the lake, full moon. Did I mention I trolled around a pair of lunes catching baitfish? :) LOL no but they're on sale at SAIL right now for $1.40 or something like that in a big bin :). That's a wicked article, I...

    Weekend fishing up north

I hate to be a nitpick, but please never ever hold a fish you plan to release by the gills. With bass, I think the best thing to do is hold the mouth and use the other hand to support the fish around the anal fin area.

    First Time Fly Fishing

Small brows are gorgeous... I'm finding that typically the smaller the fish... the more amazing it looks. The colours are usually brighter and more crisp. Anyway, I've never found smalll browns myself.

    California Trip suggestions!

I was toying with the 6000... man the drag isn't as smooth as i'd like it to be... it's so OLD. I cleaned up the drag and it didn't help at all... the felt washers are caked onto the metal washers. Might just have to buy a combo when I'm down there. Yeah I'll probrably be getting on a boat...

    Dollarama Gear

Lots of fish are more dumb than I think they are. A $5 spool and a $1 soon may look exactly the same to them. :) But i'm just speculating. My friend, first time fishing, outfished me and my other friend combined with yellow grubs, deadsticked in the water.

    Milne Dam Markham

I live in Markham and I talked to and old local who used to maintain the Milne Dam Park. He said there used to be Walleye and Pike in there... can you believe that! Insane! Right now you're right it's just carp. But I don't have any problem catching carp, I quite enjoy it.

    Milne Dam Markham

Yup the 3 of us will fit! We'll have to do it another time, I have to cancel on you guys for Scugog. Also, I wont' be able to make Milne either. I have a lot of preparation to do for California :D Sorry guys! Hopefully when I get back we can organize this!

    California Trip suggestions!

Thanks again for all the feedback guys, it helps a lot. I'll probrably be taking 2 or 3 set-ups, my normal medium bass set-up and something.... heavier :P. I have a 6000 size spinning reel, which is probably overkill but I have it and might as well use it. What should I spool with? The...

Drag Lake Halliburton... I tried and tried for a Laker

Thanks for the reply NADO. The thing with verticle jigging... is how on earth do you get a spoon down to 80 or 60 feet... they flutter down so so slowly. It would be hard to confidently know the depth since I don't think they fall at a steady rate... maybe they do. I was measuring the depth...
