Drag Lake Halliburton... I tried and tried for a Laker

This weekend my gang headed up to Drag Lake in Haliburton. Another great chance for me to clock in some lake trout fishing! However, I was not successful. Saturday and Sunday were my focus days. Fishing began at 6:00 am and went to 10:30 am Saturday morning. 7pm to 11pm Saturday night...

    Pefferlaw Trip

Openfire, earlier this year I was reading the original OFF forum, the old proboards one, and it inspired me to check my local ponds. I found bass! :D That was a great project you guys had going, what happened to it (the ponds project)?

    Milne Dam Markham

I"ve brought my canoe there before and... the water's only a foot deep in the middle LOL. Imagine the look on our faces when we bottomed out in the MIDDLE of the pond :P How about Wednesday evening guys? We can meet at 5pm or 6pm? There's a school in the area that I park at and I walk in...

    California Trip suggestions!

Thanks Dozer, that's great help! What do you think's a decent set-up for the pier, what kind of line should I spool up with? I'll definitely be talking to locals, i'm trying to set-up meetups on a cali fishing forum. Maybe I can pull this off in King's Canyon National Park... I can't...

    Milne Dam Markham

Let's meet up! Send me a pm if you're interested and we can go there one evening. I haven't been there in a month, and I'd love to go back. This is an open invitation for anyone, just pm me. More lines in the water, the better. There're carp, some decent fish. I'm at Markham and 16th.

    Dollarama Gear

You can find $2 topwater frogs that work, and have brought me fish. Before you use it, take a gluegun and hot glue the stopper on the bottom. This way you won't loose it. I lost it on mine and had to buy another.

Talking about line strength as #6, #10 etc....

What does that mean? Is #6 line just 6lb line? :S

Spinning reel "bump" sensation while retrieving

I'm going to be switching it up with... something... else today or tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes!

Spinning reel "bump" sensation while retrieving

LOL, normally I would be OK with it... but it's NOT acceptable on a brand new $70 reel :P I've used the C4 on a trip before, so the box is open and it's spooled :P... actually I don't have the box or spare spool unfortunately. So it would sell for less...

Spinning reel "bump" sensation while retrieving

What is sad is that I have my grandfather's old Abu Cardinal 4 spinning reel in mint condition. I'm not letting myself use it., i'd rather keep it mint and pass it down as a collector's item. I took the sh!tty pflueger out again today to see if there was any regularity with the "bumps". From...

    Algonquin Provincial Park

Wow big fish! We just got back from a weekend at Ragged Lake, our biggest was about 3lbs though. I spent a lot of time trying to catch a Lake Trout in 100 ft of water... no dice! :(

Spinning reel "bump" sensation while retrieving

Thanks Jeff, I just bought it yesterday. No doubt about it, it's going back :P. I will check to see if it's happening at the same point in the spool oscillation or the line roller spin, good idea!

Spinning reel "bump" sensation while retrieving

It's not the rod, the sensation is coming from the reel itself. I've gotten the same sensation from the Avocet II Silver and it was on a different rod. I'll triple check everything tomorrow... right now it seems like a reel problem :P

Spinning reel "bump" sensation while retrieving

9+1 bearings... http://www.basspro.com/Pflueger-President-6900-Series-Spinning-Reels/product/10213341/196405 It's absolutely redonculous! I am driven nutty... seriously if I get another reel that does this I'm going back to my 1980s swag... :P

Spinning reel "bump" sensation while retrieving

I'll have to switch it for a different model... man this is strange! edit: hahah the Patriarch is a $200 reel though :P ... but still I would expect smooth from a $70 reel :???:

    Big Drum on Jigs!

Wow this is awesome advice! Learned quite a bit just now thanks Dugger for that nice write-up on jigging. When drifting in a boat, do you guys cast ahead of the boat and retrieve or behind the boat and troll?

    Advise Please

I have still yet to figure out when and why I would want to fish a plug over a spinnerbait, spinner, or spoon. Somebody fill me in? Maybe topwater popping, but not sure when else. That said I do have a Rapala F7 and it absolutely slays small bass, it's a fish magnet. But so is a small...

Spinning reel "bump" sensation while retrieving

This week I'm test driving the Pflueger President 30 size spinning reel. It's smooth as silk... except for one annoying issue. I previously noted this issue in the Avocet II Silver, a $15 reel. Well the President is a $70 reel and, while it's less evident , it's still glaringly there. I'm...
