I attended this year's show, but found that there wasn't much in the way of information, or even gear. Lots of boats, lots of outfitters, but not enough of a selection of gear manufacturers. I would have loved to have a variety of gear and tackle to browse and purchase at a less-than-retail...

My usual, all purpose go-to rod is a Rapala Magnum MH 7'. I bought it last year as a back-up to complement my arsenal of mostly Fenwick rods (I love them), and it immediately fell into favour, even though it is noticeably more crude than any of my Fenwicks.

Glen Haffy you only pay to fish. No fee to keep fish. I think there's a limit of 6, however. Not my favourite type of fishing, but good to take the kiddies/ beginners for some guaranteed action, or just to practice technique.

Drums are plenty along the Grand, from the Dunnville dam all the way down to the mouth at Port Maitland. A friend of mine tried eating it, and found the meat to be very mushy, although he thinks that may have been due to having the fish on the stringer in very warm water temps.

Bingo. Last thing we need is giving poachers more excuses to game the system. It's a shame when a fish gets injured, but least by returning the injured fish into the water you are feeding the ecosystem, and not depleting it. Rainbow - it's hard to target one particular fish specie without...

I was at the reservoir on Saturday and Monday. Saturday ran into plenty of bass, only one pike (which I lost). Yesterday was good piking. Five-of-diamonds spoons worked flawlessly. Good luck on the water and let us know how you make out.

For sure. Even a non-productive day on the water is good fun. I just felt kinda bad because I didn't want to disturb the bass spawning grounds. After every bass caught I moved to a new spot, only to run into more bass. Wish I'm so lucky come the end of June! As for the lost spoons, it's just...

Drop-shot rig tipped with a worm or minnow works very well for me. I also use poppers and top-water lures quite frequently, as bass often feed by the surface.

Nice fish to open the season with. My opener consisted of quite a few OOS bass, including one huge one. All were unhooked and safely released, pronto. Only hooked into one pike all morning, and it felt like a big one, but lost it because I forgot to tighten the drag on my brand new reel, which...
