Anyone catching or locating any salmon?

I think you're right, you can only fish the Humber from Eglinton upstream to the south side of Hwy 407. http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR_E001335.pdf So, does anyone know any good spots to get me started? I'm 1 for about 7 this year and I'm looking to hook up again. Cheers,

    Reel maintenance

These are some of the sites I use. You can also find some good "how to" books in your local book store. However, especially when it comes to the casting reels, I always take it to a professional because they can be complicated. Casing http://www.tacklethief.com/maintenance.htm Spinning...

First time fishing at the Humber river

Hi Guys, So I finally caught my first salmon of the year yesterday. I was fishing the mouth of the Humber, I started on the east side at 5:30pm, there was a pretty strong off shore breeze and it was about 20 degrees. I was using a blue fox perch wobble spoon, then I tried a J13 rapala orange...

First time fishing at the Humber river

On Saturday night I went to the mouth of the Humber to cast some spoons for salmon, I've never fished this area before. I arrived about 7pm, it was about 20 degrees with a good off shore (SW) breeze. I fished the west side point just out from the mouth out on the rocks , near the bridge. There...

    All Purpose Combo

For me, it would have to be a 7ft medium action rod with a medium size spinning reel. This will be a good set up for panfish, bass, pike and you could also do some trolling (for trout, etc) with this set up as well. Line is a personal choice, I prefer mono but many like the braids, it's really...

    Modify Spoons

Yawn, I came into the same problem, I got six 4'' glow spoons, but they were too light to cast. On the weekend I tried the bullet head with and without the swivel. When there was no swivel, the action of the spoon was "flat", however with the swivel worked much better. I also tried put on a...

    Jigging techniques

I find the Texas jig has worked best for me. Tubes jigs are a very good set up, it can be fished many different ways. There are some great "how to" videos on You Tube for tube jigs. A wacky rig with a senko worm has worked so far, I just started to try it out, my first cast at the island using a...

    East Tribs fishing...

Hi All I wanted to know if anyone has fished any of the tribs lately? If so which tributary and what techniques were used. I've never fished any of these tribs before. Normally I have used roe bags and bounced the bottom, roe bags (with the floats within the bag) with a bell or pencil sinker or...

    Pier fishing???

When everyone says "the pier" I think they mean the pier at Ashbridges bay or the pier in Port credit. However I not sure, I'm new to Toronto as well, perhaps one of the more experienced members could clear this up for us.

Best place to buy St. Croix rod ?

Hi Mikey, I just bought the 9'6'' MH fast action st. croix rod. I got it through the "fishing hole" (online store) they have stores in Alberta. I think I got a fair deal, 160$ to my door, the local stores and bass pro wanted around 200$ with tax. hopes this helps,

End of August . . .(Let the battle begin!)

Thanks David, Have the salmon come in this far yet? I found in Owen Sound the salmon have come in later and later into September usually its best about the second week of Sept. (just after the derby...go figure) Would you recommend the morning or evening fish? I found that the evening fish has...

    Do you keep fish?

My thought is: let the trophies go so some else catch them and eat the small ones. But it's been a while since I have kept a fish, usually I only keep trout or walleye. Cheers,

    Bass fishing rod length

I think you could go two different ways. I take my 5' 6'' ugly stick to the cottage to fish bass, it's great because it's very portable, accurate casts and if you want to walk through the bush to get to you're fishing hole it's great to carry. But if you are doing "serious" fishing you may want...

    Things for Salmon fishing???

Hi lansdowne03, Personally I like to use lighter equipment. I use 10lbs test, maybe 12lbs sometimes. I'm always worried about snapping my rod if I were to use a braided line. I also use a 9'6'' rod (Med fast action) and a medium size reel, just like Mikey said it's important to have a lot of...

    Things for Salmon fishing???

It all depends if you are downrigging or fishing the river; if downrigging the limeman's latter back plug (white with black strips) couldn't be beat, sliver fox spoons also produced, mainly sliver with blues, greens or oranges in colour. If you're fishing the river (my favorite), I use a...

    salmon rods

I have shimano northern series (9.5') and it has never let me down when fishing salmon in the rivers in Owen Sound. I bought this yrs ago but wouldn't trade it for the world. I used 8-10 pound test with a shimano aero reel, again bought this a while ago but I find that it has never let me down.
