    Zone 17 Walleye Opener

I must have read the Regs wrong. I was certain that Walleye didn't open up until the 15th. But seeing that the 8th WAS the second Saturday in May, I see the error in my ways. It'd be nice if the fishing regulations booklet had a calendar in it, so you can figure crap out. I'm not a dumb...

    OFF Report coming soon.

Walleye opens up on the Saturday, so that's what we're after. My friend says that they usually try their luck with Perch when the picks aren't cooperating. I'm trying to get an understanding of how walleye "work" - the only thing that seems to be consistent is the time of day, and the depth...

    OFF Report coming soon.

Hey fellas, I'm headed up to Sturgeon Lake on the 15th-18th, next week. And after reading the example OFF Report, I'd figure that it would be interesting to create one myself for you guys. I'm a very inexperienced angler, so my expectations are low. But, who knows, I might have some luck...

Have to start somewhere... and this looks like a fine place.

I've managed to get my rod, reel, and line together. I did about a half spool of mono backing, with 8lbs Trilene, then used the suggested uni-knots to attach that to my 10lbs SpiderWire braid. I gave the lines a good heave to see if the knots would give, or if a line would snap. I feel...

    Fish and their Open Season(s)

Of course I have various sizes of lead split-shot sinkers in my tackle box. But the fishing regulations state, and I quote, "Lead sinkers and Jigs - It is illegal to use or possess lead fishing sinkers or jigs in Canada's national parks and wildlife areas. Further information is available at...

Have to start somewhere... and this looks like a fine place.

Okay, thanks guys. In my research I found mention of both methods - using mono backing, or some kind of tape. I'm not certain how using the mono under the braid would affect my casts, however? Care to explain? Tim, how do you connect your mono and braid lines together? I'm sure there's a...

Have to start somewhere... and this looks like a fine place.

I picked up the Berkley Lighting Rod Shock yesterday, model SHS662ML. It's a two-piece, which isn't ideal. But I have a little car, and don't want taking my rod with me to be a hassle. Also grabbed some 10# SpiderWire EZ Braid (3# equivalent diameter). The rod had plenty of good reviews on...

    Fish and their Open Season(s)

As pathetic as this sounds, some fish still gross me out. Carp is definitely one of them. But I shouldn't be so closed minded. What are a few good methods for landing carp?

    Fish and their Open Season(s)

Specifically, I'm looking at the Conestogo River, in the Grand River Watershed. http://www.grandriver.ca/index/document.cfm?Sec=28&Sub1=13 There's Panfish available. But other than the carp, for which I have no desire to catch, the rest of the fish are out of season. From what I think I know...

    Fish and their Open Season(s)

Hey fellas, Let's say I fish a body of water that has a small population of a particular species that IS in season, while other species are abundant, but NOT in season. How do I prove that I'm not fishing for the out-of-season fish, if they can both be caught using the same tackle? It would...

Have to start somewhere... and this looks like a fine place.

Hello gentlemen, and perhaps the occasional lady. My name's Terry. I'm 28 years old. I like long walks on the - er, wait, wrong website. I started fishing for the first time, in a long time, last year. Got myself a fishing license and everything. :D I bought my first rod and reel combo...
