Have an itch, need some tips

So you think I should stay away from switch rods and keep it single handed?

Have an itch, need some tips

Slowly, but surely, my mindset is changing to that. Bass used to be a weekly thing for me, until I picked up a fly rod.. I've only been bass fishing in open water a hand full of time this past summer.

Have an itch, need some tips

Haha, must be nice to be able to spend that amount of money on a rod. At this stage in my life I'm just not fit for that. Just finished college and started a job not too long ago. ONE DAYYYYYY, I'll be able to buy the gears I want. But for now, must train my mind to think towards a cheaper...

Have an itch, need some tips

I guess I can stick with my 9ft 6wt for now and wait a month for new years to buy a new outfit.. This way I won't feel that bad for spending MORE money in 2012 on fishing lol. Unless I find a cheap second-hand 10ft 7wt that I just can't resist...

Have an itch, need some tips

lol, maybe I just need a higher paying job. After reading many threads on this topic, I heard that the extra 6inches make a huge difference when using a 6wt for steelhead. Is this true?

Have an itch, need some tips

Ideally $0, I was hoping that somebody would say "stick with 9ft 6wt" lol. Not sure what my real budget is at the moment. I just know I don't want to be spending too much as I've already spend way more than I want to this year. This itch sucks...

Have an itch, need some tips

Hi, With all the talk about fly fishing lately, I'm feeling the itch to buy another outfit. Currently I have 8' 4wt and a 9' 6wt, but looking to get a another setup for winter chromes. Not looking to spend too much money on this. Generally what rod length/weight should I get for winter...

    fly fishing

Is 6wt really good enough? I have a 9' 6wt TFO and always wanted to try chasing chromes with a fly rod, but was hesitant since I was under the impression that I shouldn't use anything under a 7/8wt for winter chromes. I don't want to be stressing the fish too much when trying to land one. Any...

    fly fishing

3/4wt is great for the summer months for trout and panfish. About the eggfly: I'm sure it's normal for a fly to lose it's original appearance after a while, especially after it's been beaten down by a chrome. Not sure if it's normal for the pattern to disappear entirely though....

Congrats Grub. Sorry I missed out today, had non-fishing related plans

Panfish can be a blast on a fly. A 3 or 4 wt is ideal for panfish. Dry fly, wet fly, streamer, foam bugs, almost anything goes for panfishes as long as they can put it in their mouth (they often also try to take something bigger than they can swallow)

Generally speaking yes. Resident trouts need cold water, so they're usually found near or at headwaters. The hardest part of finding resident trout is really looking for public access into the stream and making sure you don't piss off land owners.

Of course, the next challenge is finding public access to headwaters....

    First centerpin reel

Okuma Sheffield is a good reel for the price.

    bead help

1-3 inches above the hook should be good. If you're having trouble setting the hook it may be because of a small fish nibbling on it. bobberstop -->beed -->bobberstop -->1.5inches-->hook Worked well for me. I use bobberstop because I find that pegging sometimes damages your leader.

    new to this fly thing

+1, CC will be able to give you great insight on flyfishing. I'd give my 2cents but I just started not long ago so don't have much of an input. I do have one piece of advice that I can pass onto you that I got from somebody else. If you've never tried fly fishing before, you could get a starter...

    fly or pin

I actually picked up a cheap brand-less tenkara for that (or atleast I think it's brand-less. If there's a brand on there I can't read it lol). . Can't wait to try it out next year lol, hopefully it wont snap in 100 pieces on it's first fish!
