Someone get this kid a real rod

Awesome! I remember when I was younger I was fishing with my grandfather and we weren't catching anything. A young boy came over and asked if he could borrow a lure from my grandfather. He said why not tossed him a random lure (wasnt the nicest piece of tackle either). Kid tosses this thing out...

Congrats to him, I gave steels a go last year but no luck. I landed two bass last season on fly was an awesome experience but a bigger more challenging fish would be an accomplishment!

haha, nice! Whatever gets you out on the water! I have a 6wt I love, I just lack a sense of direction in terms of learning. Little things like after you cast do you let the fly drift down stream or the order of line setup (ie. dacron, fly line, leader, tippet etc.) always get me.

Walleye on fly, interesting that would be tricking, I would think. Probably just practicing for bass, its fairly easy. Once I get better Id love to give some steelhead or trout a go, maybe even pike.

    Baitcaster

Looking to buy a bait caster and was wondering is it a viable option for fishing pike? I know they are mainly for bass and dont think I've heard of anyone using it for pike? What do you guys think? Or even better what other species would a baitcaster be a good option for? Cheers.

I was fishing the Thames last summer for bass to get some practice in. Usually fairly slow moving water. The roll seems like a solid option or the double haul?
