    baitcasting rod under 100

For your price range, look for Bass Pro's OEM rod & reel combos. You should give Tourney Special or Extreme Tournament combos a look. Abu and Quantum usually has cheap combos too. Abu's BlackMax is an ok cheap casting reel. Not so sure about Quantum Advantage. I believe it's magnetic break only...

    labour day bassin

Nice pics. Yeah smallie action's been exceptional this year. Everywhere. Dropshots always produce smallies.

    Zone 16 regulations question

You'll have to check the specific river you're planning to fish for any exceptions. If there are no exceptions then you're good to fish for pike till Dec 31.

    Wader problem

Wash with vinegar AND THEN baking soda (not together) ;) I use heavy detergent tabs for my wetsuit (scuba diving) that works well to get rid of smell. I would think they'll work for waders just the same. You can get some from scuba shops. But really save the $$ and use vinegar in hot water...

    Inglorious Basstards

Yeah Scugog is pretty shallow. But there are bass and big ones too. Saw a 6-3/4 Lb smallie caught at a tournament earlier this summer. Also fall Muskie spot if you're into that.

    Highly Recommended for Still-Fishing

Cool. I grew up watching my dad using that rod holder. He'd always use a 12+' float rod (no reel. Fixed line) from the bank for carp and panfish... Personally I'm happy with the spiral holder.

Any idea what fish this might be?

Yup carp. You should, shall we say... bag that carp and CARPe diem?

HELP CHOOSE Rod(s) for pike, bass, walley, salmon

3.1 definitely. And something close to 3.2b. I'm not man enough to wield a 9' stick. I have 8' spinning setup (M/M) that I use for crankbaits and trolling for salmon. Casts a mile too, if I need to chuck one from the shore... But I'd spend the money and get a good 7' M/F setup instead of...

    New Bass Pro opened closeby

I thought Blue Jays Junkie... ;) I've had a decent luck with the red striped #5 mepps for pikes. Haven't caught a Muskie with it yet.

I'm a big fan of lipless crankbaits. Especially countdowns. Live Target lipless golden shad was the most productive lure for me on my walleye trip earlier this summer.

Port Credit: Salmon “pier” fishing tips for noobs

Good call on Shimano Stradic. I'd even consider 4000 series to get a bit more drag and longer line on the reel. Also for more cost efficient option, I'd consider Pflueger Arbor (size 40) as well. For less than half the price of Stradic, you have the 20Lb drag spinning reel with slightly less...

WHAT DID YOU BUY TODAY? FISHING PURCHASES

Fenwick Elite Tech Bass 7' M/F casting rod. Was in the area so decided to stop by the local SAIL just to "browse" which is never a good idea. They were having sale on all rod and reels, and since I've been eyeing one of these rods for few months now, I decided to pull the trigger on a...

    Fishing in Algonquin Park

The camping was excellent as always. Wee bit wet but not too much of a bother when you're prepared for it. I do love the park, which is the reason for the annual pilgrimage up there. Didn't have too much time to dedicate to fishing which is why I was limited to the lakes along 60. While...

    Fishing in Algonquin Park

Pretty tough fishing up in Algonquin Park this past weekend... I was up there for an extended long weekend and got completely skunked. There was heavy rain storm on Sunday so I didn't expect much but it was still disappointing. Mainly tried for small mouths on shore with spinner baits and senkos...

Fishing rod for pike, walleye and bass?

Good choice on the reel. For the price, you'd be hard pressed to find another better. I own 3 myself (6925, 6930, 6935). Like many noted above, 7ft Medium/Fast would be a good starting rod - with 8 Lb mono on your reel. You may miss out on some specific situations/techniques (especially bass...

A friendly reminder about Common Carp

Totally agree. Actions like that is one of the reasons anglers get bad rap out there and you find so much anti-fishing sentiments from the local municipalities. We really don't win by strewing fish carcasses (carp or not), used lures, broken fishing lines around...

    Big Smallie. New Personal best!

Both nice catches! I remember someone else on this forum mentioning flipping the canoe and losing a rod... Coincidence?
