19 Lbs Channel Cat

Hi just wanted to share my biggest Catfish I caught off Georgian Bay. For bait I used a piece of a sucker that was dead on the shore.......dat smell

Sweet fish. If you every happen to be near the mouth of the grand in april or may give the channels a shot. They get up to something like 40 lbs in erie, and are easily caught during the run.

Not that I am an expert on channel cat but the Ontario record is 29 lbs and this spring at Dunnville during the run they certainly were not easy to catch .

Yea you are correct, its 29 lbs back in 2000. I have yet to hear about anyone pulling out anything close to 40 lbs!

That is a nice Kitty. My biggest to date was 12 lbs and a friend caught one 15 with me a few years back. Must have fought like crazy. We were in a small rowboat when my friend hooked the 15 lber and it towed us around Jordan Harbor for 15 or 20 minutes .
Although I do catch a lot of Cats hamiltonangler I hardly ever target them either (except when I am at Cootes.) They will readily hit any live bait and I manage to get lots while fishing minnows or worms when I am targeting anything with fins . 5 lbs is not bad, I know a 5 lber will give a good account of itself.

Dam you fellow fisherman on other forums!!!!! One guy said he got one that was 50 lbs BS bro. Idk where i got 40 from. Somewhere lol. Ill change my guide a bit.
