Hey guys as some of you may know i bought a pin setup in the spring. I have yet to try it out on the water, but i have been practicing in my backyard abit and thought of two question:

1) Do i need to do any maintenance i.e oiling in some spot?

2) What is the best cast to do? I am trying the wallis and single loop casts. Wallis has gone pretty good (still need a lot of practice, but single... Oh my, it gets kinda scary lol.

A thing to note though sidecasting is easy but creates a lot of line twist on main even when use with swivels. Wallis is the way to go once mastered you will not regret the time taken to learn. Also you might want to find a quite spot on the river and practice casting as its different on land vs water. I've found casting on the river helped better than pratcing on land.

most definitely, you can get used to having trees and brush around you while you're casting, hard to simulate that in you backyard/park

Don't even study about distance right now take the time to do short distances until you get the form and thecnique down distance will automatically be gained with experience. Haveing said that you can get a wallis cast out a good 40 feet plus.
