2 Men fined $4000 for taking too many fish from Lake Simcoe

Should have taken away their boat and fishing gear as well. That's plain greedy not to point out stupid. No wonder fish stocks are on a major decline on some o these lakes.

Unreal.
So when does the rule apply "We take your fishing gear and vehicle on spot"....? If you ask me thats more then enough ground to do so.
Unreaaaaaaaaal.

4 k in fines wont hold up in court. My guess they get reduced by 50% or something retarded like that. Set an example of a few and most of the rest will be scared. We would hear less and less of this type of stuff... shitty deal.

I would rather them get slapped with 100 hours of community service, picking up garbage at any local fishing spot or beach. Fishing license revoked until hours complete. For second violation, I would be ok with a big fine.

Also remember, many politicians and bureaucrats are not stealing 100 crappie from you, they are stealing thousands, millions, and billions of your tax dollars, and getting away with it scotfree. They're rich enough to build their own lake, and stock it with thousands of any species they want. Gotta put these violations into perspective.

dont mess with the law dont even thing in your mind that you might get away with 1 fish. its simple obey the law and you wont be in trouble.
thats how i look at it.

i had a friend that was 1 pickerell over the limit and he was unaware of it up in algonquin park area and they took all there equipment away and fine them about 100$ each.

and the law is there when u least expect it lol.
i dont need to touch the burner to feel the heat.

better to be safe than sorry.

The sad part about this is, I'm pretty sure this 2 idiots have done this a lot of times. But at least they finally got caught. $4000 is not enough. Gear and boat should've been confiscated and license revoked. If you are old enough to hold a license, "teaching you a lesson" when you violate a rule is no longer applicable. you should be banned from fishing.

i second to this! overharvesting fish is a bad habit that most people should eliminate, there are reasons for limits and restrictions on any species, but sadly alot of people get away with it and most of them brags about it also, but this report is good cause i may give some people second thoughts before they do something illegal and think about the fines that may come along with it!

What a pair of @ssholes. Agreed with OPs in regards to gear should have been confiscated too, but the fines hopefully hit them where it hurts. Who on earth can eat, let alone clean, that many crappie? Stocking their freezer or something? Greedy bastids they are.

you guys so silly.. read the lines.. they were keeping them alive.
so most likely, they were intending to sell them.
its not just as simple as they just caught alot, etc etc,

so its two offenses, overlimit or out of season; and reselling without license.
a 4g fine is nothing, i know a few guys down in nyc that got slapped for 10-40g, and another for 120g; after a one year investigation.
for doing the same things. it was a lucrative business. $$
