hey guys,
looking for a 3 weight fly rod thats cost effective and preforms above a starter rod. Does anyone have any ideas where i could find some to look at and purchase within the next week or two. Looking to spend 100-160 on the rod alone. I know thats not much but maybe some one knows of anything.
Preferably 8-9 foot and 2 piece.
thank you
robbyc

i would recommend either of these three rods, probably best bang for your buck

first is the ross

second would be echo

third being TFO

I can't speak personally on the echo or tfo rods, but a few people i fish with really like them, i have a ross 6wt rod, very nice rods, easy to cast, i actually find it easier to cast than my loomis nrx

J Matt is right all 3 are good rods and fairly priced I just got back from the river and was using my 9 foot 4 wt echo it's a great rod and wasn't too expensive but it's a 4 pc

thanks guys for the quick replys, i was at bass pro today and looked at there white river series 3 and 4 weights. they range at about 129-149 a piece. what do you guys think about them.
btw
if i do choose the ross or echo or tfo fly rods in 3/4 weight, what aluminum reel is suggested to pair it up with. I have an old martin classic for now but will be upgrading asap.
thanks guys

anything will work with a rod that size, the reel is just there to hold line. for the most part, you'll just be stripping in line to land the fish and not having them test the drag system, for example, i have a $35 SA system 2 reel on my ross 6wt and a $50 okuma sierra on my NRX 8wt

I use the Lamson Konic for my 3 and 4 wts there a good price and look cool and on my 2 5and 6 wt I use Ross fly start another. Great reel both less then 150

hey guys, did alot of research on the rods and reels mentioned . On paper they look good. Does anyone recomend a good fly shop around toronto that carry these rods. Went to BPS and sail but they dont have much selection in rods, unless i want to buy a 400 plus sage. Tempting , but cant drop that much coin at the moment. I googled shops and will be checking out wilsons down town. Are there any canadian websites that sell rods and reels as well that you guys suggest. Anybody hear of flyshopcloseout.com, any good, feed back? anyway thanks for reading. Talk soon

I've got a Dragonfly Journey 2 pc. 9 ft. 3 wt. which is in your price range, not sure of the exact cost. It has been a fantastic rod that I feel no need to replace with a more expensive one.
