First one measured 18" and tipped the scale at 4.25 lbs. I caught this one on 8 lb test on a medium light 6 foot Shimano BIS-60MLB2 rod. The new rod I bought at CT last week.
Second one I was armed with 10 lb test on my Shimano Convergence CVS-70M-2A rod. This one was bigger then the first. It measured 19" and tipped the scale at 4.7 lbs. What a difference in the colours. Again caught on a SLAMMER. If you have never tried theses baits, I highly recommend them. They have produced Smallies like no other bait I have ever tried. Colour seems to be key.

Enjoy the pics. We took a bunch but they were in livewell and all were released unharmed.

I'm waiting for the guy with the microphone to announce the total weigh-in! lol

Nice fish!

What colour slammer? Got a pic for reference?

Nice fish! Rice seems to be great for Smallies atm. My brother landed a 3.92 smallie on a pencil topwater bait over a shallow weedbed. Great fun!

Great fish Dirk, you surely had so much fun, Thanks for sharing.

Question - do you mind telling - what kind of lure is "slammer" - that you mentioned ?

Thanks !

Here is the link to the site for SLAMMERS. they can be purchased at Gagnon's, Hirks, The tackle shop on Shepherd by the Timmys between Markham and McCowan, think its AV.

I rig them with a size 1 Gamakatsu Finesse Wide Gap Hook but you can use their Split Shot/Drop Shot Hook also. I prefer the Finesse Wide gap one, allows for better hookups.

Colours that have been working are:

201
202
210
211
213

Any colour works and they catch any kind of fish. Have caught bass, walleye, crappie, bluegills, rockbass, pumpkinseeds, perch with them this year just on Rice.

How are you fishing them? Are drop shotting them? jig head? wacky? (They look like they could give some interesting wacky action).

Are you fishing em on shoals? I would like to learn :D

I am dropshotting them. Using them just outside the weeds in 10-12 FOW. You can fish them anywhere. Shoals, rocks, thick weeds, dunking pockets. Use a half ounce weight to keep contact with bottom and then hang on for the fight.

Sweet bronzebacks! I too have been getting into drop shotting. I've been using Gulp Alive minnows and leeches with alot of success. Those slammers look awsome, always a good excuse to buy some more tackle, lol.

Great catches Dirk, thanks for posting.

Thanks Dirk.

I had briefly tried dropshotting and got a lot of bites, but no hook ups. I believe that they were small fish as I got all 'tap-tap-taps'. I know it works, but sometimes it is just downright hard to stick to a presentation that you are unfamiliar with when you can easily throw something that you know works.
