Went to the cottage this weekend with my cousin from Europe. Unfortunately he isn't interested in fishing so we didn't do any backwoods trout missions but we did target sunfish off the dock and had a blast. We did some work around the cottage and spent our time checking out different sites because he wanted to get pictures of animals, landscapes, and everything else Ontario has to offer. I wanted to share these photos with you guys.

He really wanted to get a shot of a moose so we took off into Algonquin really early in the morning and were lucky enough to get some shots of a clean looking buck. We got close to the animal however at one point the moose made it very clear to me that I was a bit too close  Haven't had adrenaline pump like that in some time.

Back to work... WTF!

Really nice photos. How in the world did you get that close to a moose. My wife has wanted to see one for years and even heading way north with all the Moose crossing signs and all...never seen one up close.

wow looks like you guys got really close to that bull, scary for sure they can be aggressive

The moose was interesting, quite habituated to human presence ( we were in Algonquin ). As we slowed down he became alert and started to gallop away, he turned around, watched us for a while and resumed his deforesting like feeding. Each time we moved closer he would slowly turn his head and check his six, resumed feasting shortly after. Always kept on ear on us. I saw an opportunity to slide right up beside him with a telephone poll between us... which he didn't mind but some threshold was breached at some point when he turned his head and suddenly "kind of" sprung forward which sent me running away and my visitor friend nearly ripping the door handle from my car

Dave, we got up bright and early to find moose and got lucky. Talked to another fellow there who had been cruising around like us and said he went for 2 hours the day before only to burn gas. Not sure when is the best time to go is, we just drove along the highway the cuts through the park... 60? or 62?

Dugger, it is eastern Ontario, north of Bancroft.

coldfeet, they are freshly blossomed lady slippers and do they ever smell pleasant. The small third one in the photo opened up while we were there. Hopefully they will be around next time I'm up there and have less "fuzz" all over them.

awesome stuff dozer thanks for posting and sharing, the moose must have been great to get those shots

Nice Dozer, love all the pics.

As for all the other comments, a bull can be aggressive and do damage, but watch out for a mama moose. We came over the top of a hill in Algonquin about 5 years ago and at the bottom I could see a bunch of tourists stopped taking pics of a cow and her 2 young ones, problem was they were between mama and her babes. My first thought was "no good can come from this." Turned out I was right cause mama charged, the tourists got out of the way in time so no one was hurt, well except for their Mercedes which had the whole front end totalled. She didn't go around the car to get to her calves, she went over it

Alfie.

Great shots!
