The Notty finally dropped and is clearing quite nicely . My friend Ray and I ventured out for some long awaited steelhead action on my name sake river .
We started off in a deep slow pool and with no takers moving our floats ... we decided to head down river and hit the rapids . I noticed an eddy close to the bank on the opposite side of the run and cast into it and slammed a high flying chrome football around four pounds . After five amazing leaps in the air , I was about to land her and she got free and disappeared into the rapids . Tore off the squashed roe bag and replaced it with a fresh chartreuse bag , flipped it back into the eddy and the float never got a chance to stand up before being sucked beneath the surface . A power packed - drop back hen was on the other end , she rolled and then booted it down river ... after stumbling about on slippery rocks , I managed to bring her safely to the shore ... and released to fight yet another day .

My first drift the float dropped and some impressive head shakes led to a screaming run and then the dreaded twist .
A large fish for sure but she won this time as she twisted that hook out and was gone in a flash . Ray shortly announced " fish on " and my float shot outa sight ... double header !
Stayed at the same location with 3 more large ones shakin' the hook and landed one more chrome bullet before callin' it a day ... a great day on the river .

Thats amazing, nice lookin hen!!! Thanks for the report from what seemed to be like a pretty good birthday for you eh :)

Very true , you know I don't move very much , but this time Ray insisted starting in the holes ... but it was the farm that had the magic .
As the level drops more it will get better and more concentrated , lots of fish still coming and going .

nice report and fish, man i wish the rivers i fish had noone in sight, looks peaceful

Peaceful is exactly the descriptive word for the majority of the Notty watershed . You almost feel you've been dropped in the middle of the wilderness ... until you hear ... rat - a-tat-tat !!
boom-boom !!! ratt-ta-taaattt !!!!

These sounds are from only one specific source when they are doing drills ... ______ !

Don't forget everyone ... if you see those nasty lamprey in the river or on a fish , destroy it by chucking it way up on shore and make sure it can't wriggle itself back to the water.
I've pulled them off of salmon in the fall . At the Humber river dam at Old Mill they have lamprey traps at the sides of the dam and if you ever get to see them lift the cages up , it's amazing how big they are . Three footers and longer .
