Does anyone know if they hit at night? Tried for 3 more hours and nothing.

It was my first time aiming for them , I used to catch them by accident while aiming for bass. Got it with a spoon.

Water was quite rough and hard to feel what was happening down below. WInd was around 25km/hr.

Last year when pier casting for salmon I accidentally caught a sheephead of same size too, with spoon. It was very early in the morning, still dark so I suppose they do hit at night. My spoon had the night glow though! Good fighters!

I caught Sheep head in Different sizes at Lake Erie , all during day time.
They were caught using different bates aiming Bass.

Nice thats good to know, I always thought sheephead wouldnt hit lures so easily. Always thought they were more of a hook and worm on bottom type of fish.

Sheephead can be great fun. I have targeted and caught them on spoons like Cleos. They seemed to prefer any with green on them but plain silver worked great. Use a stop and go retrieve to imitate a dying shad/alewife .

Caught them on worm harness - trolling body baits - and all during day time. Walleye fishing the BOQ - biggest 13.9 lbs and what a fight.

Hi Fishfight, I am targeting post spawn drum right now and I use twisters and rattling plugs. I get them trolling and working the plug or jig in the current. I have found over the years, well here anyway, that they seem to stop hitting after dusk as much as I have tried to fish em after dark (though I did get one at 10 pm the other night on a jig). They are great fighters and have been in the province for thousands of years. I just love em. The size range I have caught this week is from 17 to 28 inches. I am going to post some pics this weekend. Good fishing, friend!

lemme address my own quote from earlier as this is maybe 5 hours later....

so I fished till 11 tonight for sheepshead and did catch some after dark! lol, i was bottom bouncing a 1/8 oz twister in the dark in 5 feet of water. After dark I managed a 22 inch channel catfish, a 17 and a 20 inch drum and a 20 inch walleye. At dusk I gota nice perch, some nice white crappie and another channel catfish. So sheepshead after dark? Yes!!
