A tip for timing the salmon runs for the noobs

Winds from the north create a temperature inversion on Lake Ontario. The cooler water allows salmon to come closer to shore this time of year and like RoloPC said, there will also be more baitfish in certain areas 8)

So pier fishing is good up to right after rain and bad a day or 2 after as the fish have gone upstream? And the north winds are what increases your chances of hooking up at a pier? Am I correct?

Is temperature inversion the same as when a body of water "turns overs"?

Does this result in colder water on top and warmer on the bottom?

So after a rain when the water is up, that's the best time to fish at the mouth and 2 days after the rain it's best to fish upstream?

I am trying to keep an eye on the water level data charts and I came across the Bowmanville creek graph with confusion.
The graph shows baby-peaks that happens during low water levels?

Could you kindly explain the current graph and whether or not the fish will return
does it mean the fish are returning in these small peaks even though its like a drought outside now?
Could it be that there's some kinda reservoir and they released some water into the stream ?

I'm confused.... any help greatly appreciated.

little peaks don't mean anything, could be waves, could be variance in reading or perhaps a small shower, maybe even somebody emptied their swimming pool on such an urban trib, might make fish in the river active but there's up to a 6 hour delay til it's posted on the graph online, what we want is rains, at least a half inch, a good t-storm can do it

I would like to know too when we should start observing for these trends, i have had some success following the hydrometric data but more wondering if now is a good time to try and catch when it starts raining or is it still too early for the salmon to be staging? is labour day a good mark to try and start following the trends?

Amazing info here! I have been fishing for Salmon and Trout since I was a boy, my dad always knew when to go (I thought it was based off his Casio fish watch) clearly he would time the rains.
For myself Salmon season still begins with a call from my dad. This information will be put to the test this fall!
