Abu Garcia Veritas/Vendetta

saw these at le barons today.. very nice rods; read some reviews on the Veritas before and was pretty well reviewed.. anybody have any experience with these? Thinking of upgrading my spinning rod to something thats not a 50$ bass pro combo for the upcoming season, I've been spinning my whole life with cheap rods so I think i'll really notice a difference..

I didnt notice a difference between the two in store really, but its hard to tell unless you fish with it

I have the Veritas, 7 foot medium action with a fast tip. I love it, it's so sensitive when compared to my other rods. I would pick it up.

I picked up a 6'9 veritas casting rod for this season. Haven't had the chance to test it out yet but it feels nice. As for the white, I kinda like it.

picked up my vendetta last spring. 6'6 medium and smash the bass and eyes on it. Some say it is more sensitive than a goddess's magical button...

Unfortunately I don't have experience with Bass Pro combos or the specific AG models in question lol BUT...

My experience with AG rods is that they preform well and often have a bit more give than Shimanos and Quantums of similar power/action so if you're looking for something more sensitive that loads up easily AG may well be the brand for you...

I mostly spin with jerkbaits/floaters, spinners/spinnerbaits, and occasionally spoons, I wanted a stiffer rod but all the stiffer veritas and vendetta seem to be 6'6 and shorter, which I feel is a bit short.

anyway 7', medium action, 1/4-3/4 oz, 2 piece is what i was looking at ,as a general spinning rod , but since I don't fish soft plastics too much its probably better for me to go with a stiffer rod from shimano maybe?

also I like to load my spinning rods up typically with 20-30lb braid, to lose less lures in snags.. I'm used to ugly stiks that don't break.. but i'm assuming doing this with a rod rated for 8-12 lbs is an easy way to snap it?

its very confusing because shimano rods for instance are rated twice.. once in braid and once in mono

people keep mentioning how sensitive they are.. would they be more for finesse presentations or would I be alright spinning the lures I mentioned with it?

I've held them and personally I find them flimsy ,I like something with more backbone and less flex, the 7' one is also rated for 4-12 lb line, which I would be really hesitant to load up with 20 or 30 lb braid

I always understood that rods were rated by line weight so you don't snap them.. then how can shimano rate their rods twice? once for mono and once for braid.. makes no sense to me

i had a vendetta till something fell off a shelf and snapped off a couple eyes shortly before that the tip snapped off during the drive to go camping

What do you want to use this rod for primarily?

- what species
- what technique(s)

- bass and smaller pike (less than 30 inches, but hopefully i start landing some 3 footers this year, gonna hit the water a lot)

- I throw jerkbaits/spinners/spoons/spinnerbaits/crankbaits in that order.. jerk baits and floating minnows being my most used lures lately.. I know that's a wide variety of techniques, but Ideally i'd also be able to jig with the rod as well as use it for a live bait setup

- I held the veritas and vendetta again in my hands and they were NOT floppy at all, even the medium power models , which is exactly what I'm looking for in a spinning rod, I was afraid when people said super sensitive=flimsy.. le baron didn't have either model in 7'0 and MH which is what I want...

-my main concern right now is will I be able to load up this rod with 20lb braid? or is that an easy way to snap it? 12lb line is really light compared to what I'm used to and i'd imagine if I stick to the ratings im gonna lose a lot of lures.

You can go as high as 65 lb braid if you wanted to, also sensitivity has nothing to do with the rod being floppy or whatever you called it . The rating to be aware of is the lure rating, caution has to he taken when throwing lures higher than recommended weight. You can break your rod doing that.

cool, thanks a lot for clearing that up.. think i'll just get the veritas I saw and load it up with 20lb braid like usual

should notice a difference in spinning for sure, at least in my shoulder after a full day casting (couldn't believe how light these rods are)

haven't been able to find the veritas in 7'0 MH, unless its at bass pro, which is expensive for rods

planning on going with this veritas 7', MH, 1/4-3/4 oz, 8-14 lb line 1 piece.

found the vendetta with these specs for 64.99 at sail, so this is kind of tempting me also

To add to the other advice:

The line rating is mostly for casting distance/accuracy and it kinda compliments the lure rating.

You probably won't snap your rod if the drag is properly set, but the power/action/height of the rod influences the optimal line diameter you want to be casting with to acheive top accuracy/distance.

Most 20lb braid has the diameter of 6lb mono (roughly, depending on the manufacturer) so you should be just fine.
