Got off a little early from work today and decided to head out to my local trib knowing I had a good half hour to one hour or so of decent daylight left.
Pool is nice and deep but is very slow. Painful to drift, as it takes forever.
Had about 3-4 ft of visibility. Not the best conditions, but 4lb flouro lead will do the trick.
I start at the tail end and cast into the deeper water.
Float shoots down on my first drift and I was into a nice scrappy buck.
I didn't have my landing net on me and also was not wearing waders. I apologize for the pics of the fish on the rocks. But I did the best I could to make sure the fish was fine and didn't flop around while I landed it, took pictures, unhooked, and released it.
It was a decent fight with a lot of thrashing and runs, so the tail end was spooked for sure. Especially with how clear and slow the water was.
I did a few more drifts and knew I had to move with the limited light left.
Made my way to the head of the pool and first drift once again results in a very aggressive take.
This time, I could see that it was another coloured buck. It cleared the water... very surprising for January.
It was a great battle. Even had me wrapped up in submerged wood for a while. Thankfully I managed to free it.
This one took it really deep, almost swallowing the hook entirely.
Once again, I took some pics before releasing.
It wasn't until I got home and reviewed the pics on my phone that I realized that these two were in fact the same fish.
Mind blown LOL.
I didn't even consider them being the same at all while I was on the river. Mostly because it fought so much harder the second time.
Usually when this happens, the fish just comes in with no fight the second time around.
Weird!
