I have a couple friends who subscribe to MysteryTackleBox (MTB) and they have only good things to say about it, so I was thinking of subscribing. Its $15 USD a month for an assortment of tackle and baits, apparently with an over the counter value of $25 or more.

I did some looking online and found MyMonthlyCatch (MMC), which is basically the Canadian equivalent. So it's cheaper due to our low dollar but my thoughts are MTB is a bit better since the states tend to get better prices for tackle and such. That being said I would much rather support a Canadian company if its a good deal and I'll actually use the stuff they send me.

Another difference is MTB allows for individual species selection and MMC gives stuff for pretty much any Great Lakes area fish, which isnt an issue for me since I fish whatever is biting

Any thoughts or experience on either of these? I've found unwrapping videos online for MTB which show what to expect for each box but nothing for MMC. I'd just like to know what to expect from it, since with their subscription you have to commit to at least 3 months of payment

Thanks in advance!

I don't think it will work for everyone but since you already subscribed and pay, see how it works out for you. The only problem I see is tackles that you don't expect can either be very useful to your style of fishing or it could be a total waste regardless of how much the $$$ value it is equivalent to. I sometimes walk in and hand pick tackle from a store spend 15-20 and probably have half of them sitting on my tackle box for an entire year. there are stuff that you forget you have sometimes. if you are good with organizing your stuff, it's a great help. I start cleaning up my stuff every other week and see what I have for my inventory. last week I found out I have 4 packs of raven hooks and i thought i should hit up the store to buy some...tight lines.

I haven't subscribed to either of the yet... but I think I will. I end up spending probably around 15 bucks on tackle every month anyway between losing lures and trying out new stuff.

I was just hoping to get some more info on the Canadian one before committing to paying for 3 months of tackle (whereas MTB is month-by-month, but is an American business). It will be hit and miss for sure but I'm new to most fishing techniques, I do a bit of jigging and use spoons and crank-baits and that sort of stuff but I find it hard to buy stuff that I don't know yet how to use properly. I'm thinking (hoping more like) that this would be a good way to keep stocked up on some stuff that I'm accustomed to as well as forcing me to learn how to use some other stuff. I'm pretty good for not letting stuff sit in my box for too long without any use.
