Last ice season my grandma and I got buckets full! We went straight out from sibbold point provincial park on simcoe and nailed them every time. I find cooks bay unreliable cuz people there usually either get a good day or just a skunking.
I find it's easiest to get them through the ice or after ice out.
There is a fall bite though. If you have access to a boat, you can head out and look for them on Simcoe.
Nothing to it really, just ultralight setup, light line, small jigs...you're set.
My uncle got 93 last weekend in Lake Erie. He docks in Point Abino and fishes in 60-65 ft of water with an anchor.
I'll be going next weekend so I'll give a more detailed report when I get back.
i woulda thought the water would be cold enough to get the perch in closer by now. Ive been wanting to do some perch fishing as well i feel like eating some wild fish that isnt poison.
seriously my biggest dissapointment today was the four-six pound largemouth bass. at first i thought it was a small muskie but when i saw that bucket mouth i knew it was a largemouth. i was targeting perch and using my ultralite setup(4lbs test) with no net. had to bend over the pier to pick it up but there was too much line tension and it snapped before i grabbed it.
lesson for the future.... always bring a net.
it will be up in the reports.
p.s the largemouth bass may have been a loss but the 10 catfish ranging from 1/2 to 1lbs made up for it.
also
two dozen perch where a keeper and probably reached my catch limit from 8am-6pm
