Around what time of the year do lily pads show up on the surface?

Hi.

I love fishing bass in the lily pads. So I am curious about when they show.

I know they are there in time for bass opener but I think I will try fishing a couple of small lakes across the border in May that are lined with lily pads. But I want them to be there when I am fishing.

Would you say they are fully sprouted up by the third week of May?

Specifically for bass. But both of the small lakes I'm looking at have pike and tiger musky and I would troll for them.

I should add that in New York there is basically no closed season for bass and when the nice weather comes around, I always get that itch for bass fishing and can't wait till late June so I wanna scratch that itch in May like I did last year.
