fascinating reading.... hmmm, the summers of the late 60s and 70s meant tons of rotting alewife on Port Dalhousie beaches, the city would bring out tractors, i remember as a kid, to remove them all come August.

exciting times, big bruiser cohos of 18 lbs plus.... I recall a story in the archives i stumbled on from the 1930s where American fisheries people were investigating a type of "salmon" found in Lake Erie they wondered if it originated on the west coast and were puzzled how it got there. I need to see if I still have it.

West coast salmon: truly a Great Lales "invasive" pioneer. It's a big lab experiment out there.
