Anyone want to do Ashbridges bay soon for some fall salmon, trout and pike? They should be in there soon if not already.

I went out this morning to a river mouth and had one on that I lost. Totally forgot how powerful they are. I'm itching for more drag screaming fun.

Perhaps we can get a group gathering and hopefully get a few fish too. I know halleb and mikeymikey are most likely in.

Count me in! I am bringing the boat home for a Simcoe outing next week so I will have all me gear with me. Let me know where and when.

I am a neophyte when it comes to river fishing for salmon and trout so any advice/help would be appreciated, would also be willing to buy the appropriate tackle off of anyone that has extra to sell since I have no clue.

Dirk

Wow Anthony, Salmon in the morning and then Scugog at night? That is effing awesome and I wish I could do THAT!

Excuse me for my UBER noobiness, but, is there a river that flows through the park? Unless Google Maps is hiding something :/

I could be up for hooking up on Saturday morning. I have a pass from the wife. I'm a super noob, and don't really have the gear for salmon, but I'd be up for hanging out and shooting the breeze in the hope of catching something. Any GTA spots would suit. I was thinking about checking Leslie spits.

Note: This location is not a river or river mouth. It's just a small bay that gets a few migratory fish that you can say are kind of "lost".
It essentially is pier fishing. Casting hardware. Open water so the fish can make some serious runs. Not like river fishing.

Things you need:
Rod and reel... I guess it's really all you need, especially if you're new to salmon fishing and don't have proper pier fishing setups.
Big cranks and spoons
Large net with long handle (wooden boardwalk is pretty high)
Flashlight
Camera for pics

I use a 10' medium action rod with 4000 series spinning reel spooled with 30 lb PP. I then use a snap swivel to eliminate line twist and usually chuck lures like glow spoons, jointed rapalas, other large cranks. Use of leader is optional...there are pike that lurk in there though. I've used my flashlight in the water and have seen several pike just sitting on top of weeds not doing much with salmon all around them! They don't really hit at night though.

Dirk, you can use some of my lures if need be.

These fish fight hard. I'm not kidding. On good nights, you will be sore.

I guess we can try to set up a night out when we get more updates on the status of the fishing there.

forget all meet ups and go fishing while its hot, check my report why.

Sure, I am all for that efka, but can you be bit more specific as of where to and when ? Thanks

halleb, salmon are well into the rivers now...and in good numbers...
ashbridges bay has yet to see any fish. If we want salmon and a good chance at them...go to the rivers is what he's saying. It really is your best chance right now to get MANY fish in one outing.

Yeah, I know that. This post topic is : "Ashbridge's Bay meet up?" - I am up for that, and was asking to suggest time to meat up. But I am also for fishing in river too, so I was responding to efka's post...

I'm going to give river fishing a try for the first time in my life this weekend!
I'll let you know how it goes!

Beware frozenfire, this is "life altering experience" , once you try this - there is NO going back, you will be hooked for life.... :D

Good luck buddy, let as know how did you do..

Nice experience! I'm definitely hooked!
Float fishing in current is actually pretty fun...i had to learn how to control it so that the float would match the speed of the current.

I caught a LOT of small rainbows in deeper fast moving pockets and managed to also land a male salmon as well. Awesome fight for a river fish.

What a way to break in my new river rod that I got just yesterday (12'6" shimano convergence - steelhead/salmon rod)

Great, it is not surprise to me you liked it and enjoyed, actually I was 100 % sure you would love it.

Coincidence, coincidence, you said you got : 12'6" shimano convergence - steelhead/salmon rod - and I have exactly the same rod . For pier fishing you use 30 Lb power pro - so am I...

So, who is copying who here .... ?
