Finally had the time to go out without sleeping in, getting rained in, getting called in for work, or just being lazy (sorry mikeymikey for those lost opportunities to go out salmon fishing with ya!)
Decided to hit up a nice close spot. Ashbridges Bay!
My first time out for salmon this year and I forgot the kind of commotion they can make when leaping!
Water had lots of activity. Shined our flashlights into the water to reveal thousands of minnows all staged by the boardwalk! Didn't feel good after seeing that.
Started to chuck glow spoons.
About 10 casts in, I get a solid hit on my 10 ft medium shimano convergence. The shimano sedona 4000 reel starts to scream as it peels away my 30 lb power pro! Fish on baby!
Fish does a couple of acrobatic jumps that make me worry as I've lost too many fish this way! 8)
After a few good runs and after giving my rod and reel a good bending and workout, the fish is netted and is a good 34 inches and 17 lbs 15 ozs. 2 lbs better than last year already! Fat fish! Nice and silver too. Wasn't going to get away as it was hooked really well in the upper jaw with 2 hooks of the treble embedded into it. I replace all the trebles off the cleos as the ones out of the package suck!
Continued to fish and see one other person land one about 15 minutes after mine. Helped him net it! His was longer than mine and weighed in at 18 lbs 1 oz.
Took off at 3AM I would say that's pretty good for being out there only 2 hours or so.
According to locals, fish are weird this year... not as many fish. Lots of skunked outings. Got a tip though, that the Oshawa pier/mouth is loaded with hundreds of them right now!
