So yeah guys i just think about this... if people spend money on a fishing reel, why would they only be able to catch one type of fish? Right? Is there any important thing that links these kinds of rods to bass? I recently bought a baitcaster and was planning on going after some pike, would that be wrong in anyway? And while i'm at it... as i said I just bought my first baitcaster and hadto buy new line. I got 20 pound test mono from canadian tire. I was just wondering if theres is anythin I should know before putting mono on that kind of a reel... its a BPS johnny morris signature series. Thanks for ur words ppl ;)

You certainly can use your baitcaster for multiple species. They're great for catfish, if you're chucking heavy rigs with big baits. Great for trolling for any species as baitcasting rods are a bit stiffer. If you use a really light leader you can use them trout fishing, there's nothing that says you have to use a centre pin or a fly rod, as long as your presentation, bait and location are good you'll catch fish. That being said, baitcasters are perfect for bass, pike, muskie and any other warm water species that you use heavier crankbaits and bigger lures.

I find I like to use them whenever I'm sight casting. Personally I find that I have greater control stopping my bait exactly where I want it. Often when your bass fishing your looking for specific spots where to launch your bait. Using a baitcaster gives you the ability to throw and stop the lure very precisely...in my opinion anyway. But no I will use it for many different applications not just Bass

Same, I use mine for more than just bass. Apart from what was mentioned, baitcasters for the most part, have a better drag system than most spinning reels. It comes in handy when fighting fish that pull a little harder than bass.

You'll be fine spooling mono, however, the memory of mono might result in a springy line after it comes off the reel. The only issues that arisie when spooling is with braid, where a good backing is a must to prevent the line twisting around the spool because if it's low diameter.

hope that helps,

They are great for carp too.
