I was planning to go walleye fishing with my uncle and his friends on Sunday, but it was called off, due to one of the guys having to work, the weather and my uncle, the expert being sick. I was pretty disappointed but took advantage of the day to due some work.
Shout out to Grubman, who answered endless questions in a flurry of rapid pms. Cheers.

** Fast Forward - MONDAY MORNING **

Woke up Monday October 8, 2012 at 6:00am. I preceded to start my daily routine, making breakfast, having a shower, etc. At around 6:30am I started my work, I worked for 4 hours straight until I started to get frigidity. God, work sure has a way of ruining the fun...

Now it is 10:30 and I can't focus anymore. Also, all of my stuff ready to go at the door where I left it Sunday morning. Hmmm, what am I supposed to do???? GO FISHING! I decided I'd try a pond, I hit up regularly for some panfish, and bass action even though the weather was cold and I knew the fish were not probably going to cooperate.

I arrive at the pond at 10:45 and the place was packed, tons of people walking their dogs and enjoying the fall colours, which were quite beautiful but perhaps the most beautiful sight for my sore eyes were that there were but no fishermen/women. I screamed a silent YES! I decided that I would try to catch my first fish on a crankbait. I started out with a silent, Rapala countdown in a brown trout. Shout out to all the folks that answered my questions on rattles or no rattles. I like the countdown because I can control the running depth of the lure. I started fan casting, another technique this site has taught me. I start to cover water with my trusty little plug.

Then when my Rapala gets around 4 feet from shore and I can see it swimming towards me, I feel a tug and the lure disappears! FISH ON! Set the hook and reel in. I didn't really have to fight this guy as he took the lure so close to shore, all I did was lift the rod tip up, reel in twice and his head was above the water.

Here is a picture of Fish 1. Not too bad. My first fish caught on a crankbait. A fish I will never forget.

A little smaller, but I'll take em!

I continued to cast at this spot. The spot was where a point stuck out into the pond with a bunch of reeds, I casted parallel to the reeds and the shore so that my lure would run past the point and along the reeds. Third cast and I cast it across the pond in the reeds I was fishing parallel too. SH*T, I just lost my most productive lure! EVER!

I go looking for it in the bushes and cannot find it. Oh well. I then tie on a mepps black fury in size 3, and move to a new spot. The Black Fury is a lure with great recomendations from people on this site. I continue to catch 2 more bass with the mepps. These bass were also the first fish I caught with an inline spinner bait.

Mepps Bass Number 1

Mepps Bass Number 2

Mepps Bass Number 3

Third cast I made with my black fury I hook into someone's line. I start pulling on the line I snagged, so that I can see if anything is attached to it. Guess what? The line lead me back to my Rapala. It was literally two inches away from my left knee. I felt so foolish but also glad that I got my lure back.

I apologize for the crappy photos, I was using my phone camera.

I then walk to a different spot and switch to a popper, no bites, but the splashing attracted a grumpy tired snapper. I think I woke him up. After I all most hooked the snapper, I decided to go home after that. Seems to me like the turtles are attracted to my lures more than the fish!

A total of 5 fish were caught in 1 hour (I left at 11:45).

I couldn't stop thinking about my success, so I go back for an afternoon session. Now the crowds are in full force and I got a little group watching me. I decided I would try a small storm shad swimbait. After a few casts and nothing I tie on the countdown and only counted 2 minutes before I got a fish. I arrived at the pond at around 4:00pm.

Thank you, good sir.

I then switched to the mepps, and got him, I think it is the biggest bass I've ever caught EVER. A man there said it was about 2 pounds, I don't know for sure.

My next cast was aimed at where the last bass took my lure. Sure enough, I got another. Something has to be said about fish hanging around in groups. Except this time I was not prepared for a hit, so when I set the hook, I gill hooked him. After that I pinched the barbs down on my new lure. I didn't remove this guy from the water when I took the hook out, so I didn't take a photo because of the risk of dropping my phone in the drink!

It started getting cold, so I wrapped it up there. Leaving at 5:00 pm. I went home, washed my hands, said grace and ate TURKEY! I can't say how glad I was that I went out when others didn't cause of the cold front. Hope you enjoyed reading and forgive my crappy photos. Cheers.

Noobs

Great bassing report, lots of fun to find groups of largemouth. That's a number of fun sized bass!

Great going Noobs. I've never seen or fished with anyone who's caught that many bass in 2 hours. That includes guys with their own boats and you got these all from shore, that's awesome. I got to get that same Rapala..........lol. Dam I was just at LeBarons today too.......lol. You did amazing. Wish I could have one of your day....lol. Angler_Brazil and I went to Cook's Bay, dam cold front and rain stopped all bites. All I got was a perch. Reading your great day made my day. Hope all your future outings will be as good and better.

Thanks. It was unreal. I was freaking out in my head. Definitely the most successful fishing day of my life. Ya, the countdown is a good one. I remember reading that someone else got there personal best on it as well. I'm glad I made your day.

If all of my future outings are as this good and better, I might as well sign up to fish the nearest tourney. :D

I've tried topwater a few times. With a popper and with a frog. I just can't get them to hit it, well I did have one bass explode on my frog, but I set the hook when I saw the splash and not when the frog was in it's mouth.

*PS: Sounds like I have to show you my "Smallmouth Spot" in exchange for your Largemouth Bass Pond! lol

Thanks. It means a lot coming from the Urban Fishing King. Fishing has a steep learning curve but I feel, like I'm starting to go up. Sounds like a good trade off to me, hell I'd tell you the spot for nothing. :D Cheers.
