Bayfield, Maitland and Nine

Ontario Fishing Forums

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

I was at the Bayfield and the Maitland this morning, Bayfield was awesome about 18" of clarity it was deep and had a great flow, bows were being caught all morning on flies and roe but I managed to get a skamania for the first time in my life about 6 lbs. woohoo. Fishing seemed to slow down around 11:00 so I went to the Maitland....man is it ever blown out I think by Sunday it should be O.K. though, needless to say it was almost unfishable but I did speak with three guys who had just left the Nine and they said that it's loaded with fish and everybody is catching. Hope this post helps somebody.

Thanks for the Update.
I will be hitting the East Tribs.

Went out today for some Harbourfront Pike, but not even a follow.
Great day out, so always a joy to fish.

Looks like the weekend is going to be Good for All of Us.
I hope everyone has a safe one.

Consider BARBLESS - Better for the fishies, especially if your mainly " CATCH & RELEASE".

The Nine Mile creek is what he means because he is talking about Port Albert.

I know...I'm heading there tomorrow for a couple hours...

I went last weekend on Saturday after all the rain and it was a "CHALLENGE" to say the least!

I'm wondering if many have been up the ladder this week.

Saw a couple surface last weekend but it was too murky and high to tell what they were. They coulda been salmon on their last legs or fresh bows?

Good luck all!

I just spoke to a friend whose uncle lives in Port Albert and he said they were going up the ladder today and they've been catching browns and bows and still the odd salmon....I think you're gonna have a great couple of hours tomorrow.

Thanks man...I don't get a lot of hours on the creek, I just enjoy every moment I get out.

It's great soul food just being out there...
Couple fish= sprinkles on top!

no doubt just being out there is awesome but add a couple of fish to the equation....well that's just heaven. Let us know how you did.

No Dice!

Went out at first light til about 10am, and dint see, hear, smell, taste or feel ANY signs of life!

As you had mentioned yesterday, conditions were MINT but I couldn't get a bite to save my life...

I went about 3km upstream of the ladder, fished all my favorite holes...??? Baffled?

Didn't see too many others around, but the people I did meet were skunky too. I'm thinking the bows have not run up very far yet...

Anyone else try it out today? bayfield or 9mile?

It's crazy how fishing can change between one day and the next........well we all no how it changes between one minute and the next. Sorry about your day but I'm sure that it was better than a good day of work lol.

Amen Blair...

(except "tomorrow" is more like "two weeks"!) They should be in by then...Frick! (or I suck at fishing...let's go with that)

Ps...hunting season scaring the crap out of anyone else?

You do not want to be upstream during the first full week in November, unless you have the appropriate orange clothing. Port Albert or the lower Maitland or any of the eastern trips ought to be safe.

I saw a dead juvenile deer on Bronte yesterday, something was off about it. Had guts coming out of its side but that was probably done by some weirdos who stumbled on the body. I hope it wasnt poached and left to rot, it is a section of rver that gets alot of foot traffic so ya never know...

A lot of guys who bow hunt shouldn't bow hunt. Could have been a bad shot and the deer was never found, that happens unfortunately too much. And don't worry about the orange 99% of us hunters are smart enough not to shoot unless we know what it is lol.

I guess that means that 1 out of every 100 hunters are shooting at us ;)

It was definitely a challenging day.

Conditions were PRIME at Bronte and couldn't buy a fish.. Baffled!...
I agree, great day to be on the river.
I was out at Bronte yesterday as well and only managed a 6lb, hen at first sun-up.. then it was whisper quiet!
-I couldn't believe the amount of people that showed up shortly after 10am... It was unreal.

(Sat was a bow-fest though... 9/9 with a big buck being the largest.. topping 10lb for sure.)
