Does anyone have tips on beach fishing Lake O and Lake H? I have caught perch and sheephead one time, but never consistently. Is there better time to fish certain species than others? Best baits to use, casting distances etc. I always love taking the family to more private/less packed beaches and do some fishing

Any help would be appreciated. :)

If you find a beach near a river mouth you can catch steelhead in the spring and fall. I posted a thread about surf fishing during the summer for steelhead, but the general consensus was that it isn't really feasible. These guys are fishing on Lake Erie, but I would assume it would be the same on most of the other Great Lakes as well.

Thanks ChomeAddict. I'll keep this in mind. Was thinking of trying a drop shot rig with various baits to see what comes along. I like to chuck out the line and just sit and wait for something to take. I'd get right in the water though with a fishing vest on if I needed to. :)

I havent done it in a while but my beach setup is a pickeral rig with two large egg sinkers at the bottom for casting distance, for bait I use worms. Walk out a bit and bomb a cast out there as far as you can and walk back to shore with the spool open. Set the rod up on a stick, sit down on the beach chair and watch the rod tip. Make sure the line stays tight so you can see the hits, this can be tough at times if it is windy with big waves.

I have caught silver perch, sheepshead and channel cats with this rig on lake huron and lake erie.
