Frenchman Bay in Pickering and Rouge River mouth:

Has anyone fished in these two areas around this time of the year, November?
What kind of fish did you catch and what bait did you use?

Any advises? I would like to give it a shot this weekend. I am new to fishing!

Thank you!

Hi Evan

Welcome to the forum. I have fished the Rouge mouth without success. I have heard that there's bass and sunfish/catfish and the rare bow. Check the forum for rouge river there is post there with a few other guys who fished the Rouge. Myself and one other member goes further east.
Where abouts are you?

Good luck.

I live in the east end of Scarborough, about a 15 min drive from rouge river. Where further east do you go if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks.

You must be close to me, I'm 10 min from the Rouge, Kennedy and St Clair. I go way way east, usually to trenton, but planning to go to Rice lake for the crappies and walleyes(closing next tues), or large mouth bass. What is it you want to catch? That is going to determine where you have to go to catch them.

I would like to try for walleyes & crappies too. Went to rice lake a couple weeks ago and tried fishing from the shore beside the LCBO there, across from Rinohs Restaurant. Didn't catch a thing, used worms.

Do you go out on a boat or fish from the shore? What time of day is good for walleyes and crappies? What bait do you use?

Thanks for the help man! Appreciate it.

I'm stuck on shore for now. My motor needs fixing. The only LCBO I know is in Bewdley. I was there once but no fish, a couple of Russian guys said maybe in the morning b/c nothing at night. Walleyes should be coming close to shore at night to feed. Crappies I'm not sure but did catch them at dusk in summer on a grub. They stopped biting at night on that occasion. Still trying to figure them out myself......lol. Some guy was getting catfish. I'm thinking of going Sun afternoon sometime, gotta see if I can get the time to go. I want to be there just before it rains (dropping barometer). You wanna meet up there?

This is the spot I was in: 5078 Rice Lake Drive North. Which spot did you try?

I was thinking of checking out Frenchmans bay and rouge river early Sunday morning around sunrise. But not sure if I will be able to make it to Rice Lake. Let see, fishing is a whole new thing to me, I have just gone fishing 4-5 times so far. I am trying to read up and learn as much as I can.

Well, if you do go to Rice lake, please do let me know how it goes!

That's the spot, no fish when I went. It's very shallow, but the park is a great place to lauch a canoe or car topper.
I went further east.

What do you plan to use as bait in Frenchman? I have heard people have pulled out pike and brown trout there. Give it a shot good luck. Bring a camera with you, you never know when you'll catch something.

I'll post my results.

I will try crankbait and worms on spinner rig. Lets see how it goes. I hope I have some beginners luck!

When i lived in toronto would fish rouge river all kinds now not so much, used to catch some really nice smallmouth in the spring while fishing for dropbacks. those fish probably reside in the bay

Cool, thx I'll try to remember that and give it a cast come spring. That's where I usually run my RC boats and see people fishing and catching mud cats. A girl I went to high school with used to live there and told me the pike are on the west side of the marsh, but you'd need a boat to get to them. I never confirmed what she said, that side is private near the mouth.

THAT'S AWESOME. And you call yourself a beginner?..........Did'nt you mom tell you to never lie?.......J/K.. I went to Rice today and hit 4 spots. Raining and I guess a cold front turned every fish off. Not a thing was biting, well except for 1 very small perch. I hate perch.

I'm tired of these long one day trips.

Glad you caught 2 pike that one is huge. Congrats. :D

BEAUTIFUL FALL PIKE!

Real nice and well done.
Remember in the EARLY SPRING those monsters will be there (ALL OVER).

Looks like you found a nice spot to enjoy.
The Pike Bite is usually real good early to late evenings.

Not telling anyone what to do with their nice catches ... but just adding:
If you CATCH & RELEASE those size beauties, they will reproduce more and of course get bigger for next time.

Thanks for the nice share
