Hey guys,

Looking to purchase a kayak for fishing in the next couple months. I'm looking for something stable and comfortable for me. I'm 6'3, 320 so capacity may play a factor. Kinda hoping to lose some weight this way. Any recommendations? What are your must have add ons for a kayak?

I think you may need to look at paying a little more . I have a Ocean Kayaks Trident and It has a max capacity of around 350lbs . I think I paid somewhere around $1300 or possibly a little more for it . The upside is it is a nice stable fishing platform and I can stand on it. Although admittedly very carefully . What I can do with ease is sit on the side with legs in the water fishing and I am 200 lbs
I do not think the smaller Canadian tire or similar angler kayaks do not have the carrying capacity you are looking for.
Of course there is the option to search for any used kayaks . They do come up . I know my wife sold two of mine last year when I was away . Her excuse was she was cleaning house and I had not used them for a couple of years . Although to be fair she did replace them with a liquid logic xp10 but this is a sit in kayak not on top.

I'm looking at a Jackson Big Rig on kijiji at the moment. Might pull the trigger if I can figure out the capacity. My phone won't load there site for some reason.

That will definitely have the load capacity that you want in addition to the stability. Are you planning on lake fishing or river because I think the kayak might weigh a little more than the average Kayak .
Looks like a good choice for fishing .

Mostly lake fishing

If you plan on doing mostly lake fishing with this rig you may want to consider adding a fish finder. You can find a lot of info for mounting a transducer in the hull . On my kayak I have a seperate drain hole that accepts a transducer and I just use a small hummingbird 385 model.

I am looking at purchasing a deeper fishfinder, much easier to rig to the kayak and I can use my phone as the screen, with a waterproof case of course. Just need to figure out how to get USB power.

You need a nucanoe frontier 12 my friend. I have easily put 2 guys at 230 each plus gear on mine. Also, I hunt from it with a bunch of gear and decoys etc. a very user friendly boat that you can easily stand up on. You can add full size boat seats etc. Weighs 78lbs though.

You've got me interested!

Just saw the Ocean Kayak Trident 13 ( I have this model ) at Sail in Burlington has a special on it for under $1000.00 right now . The capacity on these is between 450 to 475 lbs

I've seen both the Wilderness Systems Ride 115 and Ride 135 for under $1000. I currently have a Feelfree Lure 11.5 but I've been considering picking up a Ride 135 as well. I have friend with both of these boats. They are very nice, paddle well and are quite stable. The removable electronics console is a nice feature too.

Hi OFF

Besides the accessories, what is the difference with a fishing kayak baought at costco for $400 compared to one that is $1200? Would the major difference be the performance in the water (control, stability, )? Sorry cant remember the brand the costco one was. The hull did resemble some others I have seen, it had no rudder either.
